Did you know that there is indeed an actual science to those bothersome insects in your backyard? The Discovery Science Center has been invaded by bugs, and despite the fact that the place is crawling with the little pests, your children will be educated and entertained.
Bug Invasion 2 is currently on display through October 31st and features ginormous replicas of a beetle, praying mantis, and locust, a bug kiosk featuring live centipedes, millipedes, and Madagascar cockroaches, a world renowned pinned specimen collection from the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles, and a spooky 4D maze.
We headed over to the Cube last week for some spooky science and Halloweenish activities. I enjoyed the opportunities to educate my son along the way while my son ran through the museum getting hands-on with the exhibits. If you have the time and your child will cooperate, there is a Bug Invasion scavenger hunt through the museum that allows children to get a bit more into the science of these little critters. If you visit the Cube on Saturdays and Sundays, your children can decorate a pumpkin to take home, participate in the kids’ costume parade, watch Thor’s Reptile Stage Show, and be fascinated by Dr. Sue’s Traveling Insect Zoo. Bug Invasion II runs through October 31st and all activities are included with the price of admission.
Through October 30th, Discovery Science Center is offering adults one free child admission when they wear their red bracelet in support of Red Ribbon Week. This US initiative was created to raise awareness and support education and prevention of drug and alcohol use among students.
Stay tuned! In November, the Cube will play host to an out-of-this-world exhibit, Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination. I’ll have the star-studded details soon!
No compensation was received for this post. Admission to the museum was provided which helped facilitate this review.
