That is the number of photos I currently have on my iPhone.
I obviously take a lot of photos, but sadly, most of those simply live on my iPhone or my laptop. Andrew Harvey once said that “your best camera is the one you have with you,” and if you know me, then you know that I LIVE that quote! Those photos (and videos) I hold on my iPhone are more than just photos though…they are stories…stories about first words and first steps…simple days at the park or magical vacations to Walt Disney World. Each of those photos represent a snapshot of time in our lives. In fact, I could look at any one of those photos and tell you where we were, what we were doing, why we were there and the feelings we experienced on that particular day. Inevitably stories about how my daughter was absolutely enthralled with the Princesses at Disneyland’s Fantasy Faire or how my son “slid” into home base at his local T-ball game would arise.
Last week, Disney Interactive launched Story, a new digital storytelling app designed to streamline the process of creating stories out of the photos and videos you hold on your phone. After downloading the free app, Story organizes the photos and videos already on your phone by date (and in some instances, location). These “moments” can then be easily arranged, personalized, saved, and shared. I find that the most difficult part of telling a story with my photos is actually organizing them, and with Disney’s new app, I don’t really have to think about that.
The entire experience is intuitive and photos can easily be moved and edited (for size) with just a swipe of your finger. Add text, choose your background, and you’ve created your very own story in just a few minutes. I definitely think Disney had bloggers in mind when they designed this app because there is the option to embed created stories into websites and blogs!
Here are a few highlights you’ll want to take note of before using Disney’s new Story app:
- The Story App automatically finds moments in your photo library based on when and where they were captured.
- Moments can be shared immediately or personalized with captions, pages of text, themes, and layouts
- All stories can be shared via email or Facebook and are visible to invited family and friends on Story.us.
- Stories created via the Story App are saved within the app and backed up by iCloud
At present, there is no ability to add filters to photos, but the idea is that your stories should be easy to create and share.
We spent a day at Disneyland Park last week to celebrate my husband’s birthday and I quickly and effortlessly created this short story of our day:
Disney’s Story App is now available for iPhone and iPod Touch via iTunes.
