My son is my go-to for all-things superheroes. His interest is such that I’ll often find him digging deep to get the backstory on his favorite characters and stories. With the latest superhero films continuing to push the envelope when it comes to technology, story, and character development, you can imagine my surprise when my son told me about his interest in Teen Titans Go. This weekend, Warner Bros. will release the very first standalone film titled Teen Titans GO! to the Movies. Teen Titans
Teen Titans is a longstanding animated superhero TV series that first premiered on the Cartoon Network in 2003. The series is based on popular DC Comics characters and followed five members of the superhero team who juggle the threats to their city and their own struggles with adolescence. During its time on-air, it was widely popular and was nominated for three Annie Awards and one Motion Picture Sound Editors Award. The current spin-off series, Teen Titans Go! currently airs on the Cartoon Network.
Teen Titans Go!
The latest series features a new animation style and follows the adventures of Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven, and Beast Boy as they navigate the world of Jump City. The show infuses action, wit, and everyday teen troubles complicated by each character’s superhero powers. The show is geared towards a younger audience, and in contrast to the original, the superhero action is not the central focus of the stories. And perhaps the task of deciding who does the laundry or how to make the perfect sandwich, is what makes this series so relatable and compelling for kids. Friendship, teamwork, and doing the right thing are all modeled by these characters, and as a parent, these are messages I can feel good about having my kids watch. Plus, the comedic nature writing often borders on zany, which is exactly why my kids love the series.
Teen Titans GO! to the Movies
One glance at my son during the premiere of Teen Titans GO! To The Movies confirmed that he absolutely loved it. I caught him laughing aloud throughout the entire film. As the summer’s must-see big-screen comedy, the film is based on the popular Cartoon Network series about five teen superheroes aspiring to star in their very own film.
With all of the major superheroes starring in stand-alone films, the Teen Titans, particularly Robin, are feeling left out. Determined to remedy the situation, Robin seeks out Hollywood director Jade Wilson to make a film about him, and finally secure his place in the world as more than a sidekick. Unfortunately, the Teen Titans’ dreams of stardom are shadowed by a Super-Viallain’s plan to take over the Earth. As their friendship and spirit waver, the very fate of the Teen Titans is at stake. Clever and crass, Teen Titans GO! To The Movies is a fresh, funny take on the popular series.
