{Consideration provided by TCL}
Technology has been a lifesaver when it comes to working from home, organizing my kids’ schedules, staying connected to friends and family across the country, and making ordinary tasks like banking and grocery shopping a breeze. Even our homes are getting smarter, and I can now turn on my heater when I’m 30 minutes from home or open my garage door from my smart phone with a simple touch of my screen.
TCL Xess – Connecting All Your Smart Devices
From a bed that tracks your heart rate, breathing and movement, to a refrigerator that streams music and allows you to order groceries, 2016 was the year when the smart home became a reality. But the question begged…Is it possible to connect all of your smart devices to one central hub? Enter the TCL Xess, the complete mobile home hub. Equipped with Amazon Alexa, users simply use their voice to control their smart devices. Once your smart home devices are connected, ask Alexa to turn them on/off or adjust them based on your preferences.
What is TCL Xess?
The TCL Xess was designed to make the connected home a reality by using your voice to control smart devices, lights, garage doors, sprinklers and more. The Android-based tablet is larger than most, making it attractive to foodies and culinary enthusiasts. Also included with TCL Xess is an IP camera to integrate in-home monitoring into your smart home.
How can I use TCL Xess to connect my smart home devices?
Setting up the TCL Xess was intuitive, and in just a few minutes, I was asking Alexa what the weather was. To begin using Alexa, you’ll need to sign into your Amazon account using the pre-loaded app. You can then ask Alexa to recognize and sync your smart home devices to the tablet. At present, TCL Xess can sync smart home devices from brands like WeMo, Philips Hue, and Nest.
What features are unique to TCL Xess?
One of the first things to notice about the Xess is the 17.3-inch screen, which features full HD display and a built-in carry handle. The size of the screen is ideal for streaming movies and cooking up recipes. The attached, adjustable stand makes viewing in nearly any situation comfortable. Foodies will love the built-in Kitchen Stories app which includes step-by-step videos and images to make meal preparation fun and achievable. Alexa, the tablet’s built-in voice services, gives users access to the latest news, weather, and more. This hands-free access to content makes multi-tasking a breeze.
In-home monitoring with TCL Xess
Have peace of mind while you’re jet-setting or keep an eye on your toddler with the included remote camera. The camera is easily set-up via WiFi and can be placed anywhere in your home adjacent to an outlet. I personally like the fact that I can keep a camera watch over my kids while I’m cooking dinner or cleaning up in another room.
The future of TCL Xess
The TCL Xess is brand new, debuting right in time for the holiday season. At present, I was unable to find a cover that accommodated the size of the tablet. Since the screen/device is not waterproof and it was designed for use in the kitchen, my hope is that very quickly, a manufacturer will be able to make covers to accommodate the size.
One of the features I hope TCL/Alexa continues to expand upon is the gesture controls. This feature is only available in the gallery and allows you to scroll through photos/videos, take a photo, play and pause videos, and mute the device with gestures. I can see tremendous value in using gestures to navigate the device, particularly when I’m in the kitchen cooking.
The TCL Xess with Alexa is available on Amazon for $499.
