My husband and I have a collection of Disney movies on VHS (really!) and DVD. There is something special and unique about a Disney film, particularly an animated one.
Last week, I had the honor of attending a press junket at Walt Disney Animation Studios. If you can believe it, 16 countries were represented that day by journalists who’s ambition was to bring a bit of Disney back home. The purpose? To be one of the very first to experience the 3D animated film Tangled, which is Disney’s modern take on the classic German fairytale Rapunzel.
At present, the film is still in progress (part of the movie was viewed in storyboard, rough animation, etc. ) and I only watched it in 2D so I cannot post a review. However, what I can say is that it’s funny, tender, inspirational, and magical. I really want to tell you about how beautiful Rapunzel’s hair is (there is so much that went into her hair) or how much the tower reminds me of Europe or how I got very teary during one of the scenes. But alas, I must hold back for now.
Here is a short synopsis of the movie from the site:
Walt Disney Pictures presents TANGLED, one of the most hilarious, hair-raising tales ever told. When the kingdom’s most wanted—and most charming—bandit Flynn Rider hides out in a mysterious tower, he’s taken hostage by Rapunzel, a beautiful and feisty tower-bound teen with 70 feet of magical, golden hair. Flynn’s curious captor, who’s looking for her ticket out of the tower where she’s been locked away for years, strikes a deal with the handsome thief and the unlikely duo sets off on an action-packed escapade, complete with a super-cop horse, an over-protective chameleon and a gruff gang of pub thugs. In theaters this holiday season in Disney Digital 3D™, TANGLED is a story of adventure, heart, humor and hair—lots of hair.
I’m sure you’re wondering what happens at a press junket (I know I was). This was an opportunity for invited press to view the movie, get background information on all aspects of the movie including animation and character creation, and meet with the talent behind the film. John Lasseter himself made an appearance to speak about the creation and inspiration for the film. We also had the privilege of touring the studio.
I can’t wait to share with you my thoughts on the film.
Tangled opens in theaters on November 24, 2010.
No compensation was received for this post. I attended a press junket for the film which helped facilitate the writing of this post.
