A few times a year, we pitch a tent in the middle of nowhere wilderness in an effort to reconnect as a family while soaking in the natural beauty that surrounds us. This is one of those rare occasions where we all agree to go device-free, save a phone with a built-in camera for capturing waterfalls, wildlife, and camping fails. Those who camp infrequently often presume that there are endless hours to spend gazing up at the stars and roasting s’mores around the camp fire. In reality, there is lots to be done, particularly if you’re cooking and cleaning up after 3 meals and still want to get in a hike, a swim, or any number of nature-centric activities.
My kids typically end up making friends, collecting rocks and climbing trees, but there is quite a bit of downtime for them, so in recent years, I’ve brought along books, games, and activity books, all of which require daylight. I’d often thought that it might be nice to have some type of projector that could stream movies once the sun goes down to help to settle my kids, who are typically more energetic when traveling. The only challenge has been to find one that runs on a battery, is easy to set-up, and doesn’t take up a ton of space.
Right before our trip to Kern River, I received the ZTE SPRO 2 projector courtesy of Best Buy. Compact, durable, intuitive, and crisp, this is the projector you want for your next outdoor adventure. I want my smart electronics to be, well, smart, but I don’t want to have to go to school to actually use them. The device includes a quick set-up manual that I didn’t even glance at because the projector is that easy to get up and running. Simply connect to WiFi, log-into your Google account, download your favorite apps, and begin streaming movies, shows, music, and more from the ZTE SPRO 2.
The ZTE SPRO2 is built on the Android platform, so you’ll have access to all of your content via the Google Play Store. I immediately downloaded the Netflix app, since it’s my primary means of streaming movies and TV shows. You can also download and stream content from Amazon Prime Video, Sling, Hulu, XFINITY TV, Flixster, VUDU and more. One of the things I really like about the ZTE SPRO2 is that it can double as a smart device (comparable to a small tablet). I can check email, post updates on social media, access stored photos and documents, and so much more, all with a simple touch of the screen.
Where this projector really shines is in its image and sound quality. Utilizing Digital Light Processing technology and high-definition 720p resolution, the image is incredibly clear, offering the type of detail I’ve yet to see in a projector. Enable the auto-focus and you’ll enjoy a picture that is consistently free from distortions. Additionally, you can choose how large you want to project the screen from 20 inches to 120 inches at a distance of 2.3 to 12.1 feet, depending on the number of people viewing the screen.
One of my concerns when bringing this device into the great outdoors was the sound quality. Equipped with dual JBL speakers, the sound is impressive, and while there is an option to connect speakers via Bluetooth, I don’t feel this is necessary.
Best Tips for Using the ZTE SPRO 2 Projector:
- The projector works best in a dimly lit to darkened environment. You can adjust the brightness directly from the device or your smart phone.
- Download the SPRO 2 Remote app for your smart phone so you don’t have to get up to access content or adjust settings on the projector.
- Connect the SPRO 2 Projector to a tripod for a more secure set-up. This will also ensure your projected screen is straight rather than angled.
- Charge up the device prior to use and you’ll enjoy up to 2 1/2 hours of projected entertainment.
Some of the fun ways you can use the ZTE SPRO 2 Projector this summer include backyard campouts, outdoor movies poolside, and bedroom sleepovers. Weight in at 1.26 pounds, this projector is smaller in size than most books and comes with a carrying case that will store the device, charger and HDMI cable.
This summer, take your movie night anywhere with the ZTE SPRO 2 Projector. For more information or to purchase the device, visit your local Best Buy store.
