One of my favorite beverages (apart from water) is iced tea. But not just any iced tea…it has to be flavored. And one of my favorites is made by a company called Honest Beverages. The company offers several lines in addition to their bottled teas, including Honest Ade (organic thirst quenchers with around 50 calories per serving), Honest Kids (organic, low-sugar fruit-flavored thirst quenchers), Honest Kombucha (ready-to-drink organic kombucha with active probiotic cultures), and Honest Mate (ready-to-drink organic yerba mate, high in antioxidants and low in sugar/calories).
I’ve been drinking Honest Tea for several years now, and my favorites are their Peach White Tea, Mango Green Tea, Pomegranate White Tea, Mango Acai White Tea, and Peach Ooh-La-Long Tea. Most flavored iced teas are made with high fructose corn syrup and therefore contain a lot of added sugar and calories. Honest Tea uses a bit of cane sugar and fruit to flavor their teas. Most of their teas are under 50 calories per serving and under 10 grams of sugar per serving (but remember that 1 bottle is two servings). Despite the lower sugar content, their drinks pack a lot of flavor. I typically don’t sweeten iced tea and am sensitive to tea that contains added sugar. I think the company does a good job of making teas like green and black, which can be strong or even a bit bitter, palatable.
One of their newest flavors is their Half & Half variety, combining tea and lemonade. Their take on the traditional Arnold Palmer is a nice balance of tea and lemonade. It’s not too sweet, and not too tart. Also new to Honest Beverages is their Honest Kombucha line (which I haven’t tried yet). This is an organic, Fair Trade Certified black tea fermented with active cultures of bacteria, yeasts, and sugar that feed on the caffeine and tannins from tea. The result is a drink that supports a healthy GI tract.
From their packaging to their products, Honest Beverages is committed to social responsibility. They strive for “authenticity, integrity and purity” in their products and in the way they do business. The company also supports fair labor practices and their products are all Fair Trade Certified. Honest Beverages are sold Whole Foods, Henry’s, and retailers nationwide.
