In May of 2006, Jason and I boarded our one-way flight to London. After more than 6 months of paperwork, overseas phone calls, and intensive internet research, we finally quit our jobs, moved out of our apartment, and headed east. Of course I’d dreamed about submerging myself in another culture. Who doesn’t dream of sipping a latte in a Parisian cafe with views of la Tour Eiffel…
Or strolling the streets of Shakespeare’s birthplace…
Or riding a donkey on the island of Santorini…pregnant!
Or living in an Edinburgh flat…
Just thinking about the 8 months we spent backpacking through Europe makes me nostalgic for those days when we were so bold, adventurous, and carefree.
As a child, one of my most cherished memories was my family’s weekly summer trips to the beach. I love the serenity afforded me by the sound of waves crashing on the shoreline at dusk. From snorkeling in St. Maarten to swimming with sand sharks in Tahiti, summer is incomplete without aquatic activities. I still love to steal away to PCH (although much more difficult now with a mobile munchkin), to walk barefoot in the sand while listening to the sound of crashing waves and jet engines flying overhead.
In the 3 years we’ve been married, Jason and I have traveled both locally and abroad. Coming home pregnant put our travel plans on hold, but we hope to instill our love for travel in our children. There is a great, big world out there just waiting to be explored! We’ve already been to the south to visit Jason’s family and we’re planning on making a vacation out of BlogHer this year since it is in one of our favorite cities…San Francisco! We hope one day to bring our son back to that Morningside flat, where we lived and dreamed. The flat where I took a pregnancy test one cold, blustery winter morning that changed our lives forever.
