Summer is all about color…vibrance…fun! Summer is also a time to be carefree…to get dirty…to live! We’ve been making a ton of memories this summer at the park, the beach, our pool, our local museums, and other play spaces around the area. Inevitably that means both of my kids’ clothing have gotten wet, dirty, and in some instances, torn. Between the rate at which they outgrow clothing and the amount of wear that goes into them, it seems like I’m regularly buying clothing.
Last Winter, I was introduced to Cookie’s Kids, the World’s largest Kids Department store. While the brand has several physical store locations in New York, their online presence is significant and their store is a go-to destination for parents seeking fashionable, affordable clothing. This year they will celebrate their 40th anniversary! Interestingly enough, despite the brand’s notable reputation for selling children’s clothing and uniforms, partners Cookie and brother Martin started the business by selling toys.
Very often, I find that I’m shopping for my kids’ summer clothing in the midst of summer, as opposed to their Fall wardrobe which I put a bit more forethought into. At present, they have a ton of summer fashions from reputable brands like Levi’s, Carter’s, Nautica, Guess, and The North Face. With the new school year just over a month away, I wanted to find a summer outfit that my son could still wear during the early part of the school year since our weather during the early Fall months can be quite warm.
As is customary, I first headed to the expansive Clearance section on Cookie’s Kids’ website.
I absolutely love how the site is laid out because it makes it very easy to find exactly what I want.
For example, I can shop by gender, age, size, color, brand, type of clothing, and price. With $30 to spend, my goal was to find a “nicer” summer outfit that can be worn both casually and more formally.
I always find it easier to shop for bottoms and then match the tops, so I browsed through the “bottoms” section and found a pair of Classic Rivet Denim Shorts by Coogi. The shorts retail for $54.00 but Cookie’s Kids’ price was just $14.99. The shorts are casual and playful with their multicolor stitching highlights and bold embroidered logo. The dark denim color makes it feasible to dress these shorts up, if necessary.
During my search for shorts, I also happened upon a pair of Rebel Manzanillo shorts which were on sale for just $6.99. I considered purchasing these but I preferred the darker denim and longer length of the shorts by Coogi.
I then proceeded to browse the tops. I knew I wanted something colorful yet tasteful. After browsing, I finally settled on a Letter Loop Button-Down Shirt from Coogi. The lightweight, cotton plaid shirt features stylish embroidery and vibrant colors. The regular price of this particular shirt is $48.00 but I was able to get it from the site for just $14.99.
The other shirt I was considering was a V-Neck Tee from Akademiks which was on sale for $6.99.
Here are 2 sets I created during my shopping experience:
Traditionally, I’ve found it difficult to shop for my son. Most stores stick to very generic boys’ clothing and at times, I feel like I’m seeing the same styles again and again. I like how diverse and abundant the selections are. I also appreciate the ease with which I can browse the site without getting overwhelmed with the amount of items available.
At $29.98, I felt like I got a great deal on a very nice Summer outfit for my son.
You can view my entire shopping experience on Google +.
Despite the fact that I couldn’t find an online coupon code (I always look for one when I’m shopping online), I was happy to learn that Cookie’s Kids offers $5 shipping on every order!
Cookie’s Kids still has a great selection of summer clothing, shoes, and accessories at unbelievable prices. I highly encourage you to check out their entire selection, including the Clearance site and Facebook/Twitter.

I love these outfits. I just finished going shopping with my kids at Burlington Coat Factory for their summer clothes. We got some great deals and I love the quality of the clothes they have. I can’t wait to get some picture of them in their new clothes.
