Step2’s New Wild Side Riders

Posted by Caryn Bailey Leave a Comment

Now that my daughter has mastered the art of getting around on her own two feet, she doesn’t just walk…she runs!  If you think infancy is tough, toddler-hood offers it’s own set of unique challenges.  That new-found ability to get around equates to freedom in the mind of a 1 1/2  year old.  To channel that energy and curiosity, I strive to offer her age-appropriate toys and learning activities.

Vroom, vroom! says my daughter, as she scoots around on her new Wild Side Riders Giraffe by Step2. She’s always trying to keep up with her brother and her new ride-on toy may just help her achieve that goal!

Step2 recently introduced both the Wild Side Riders Giraffe and the Wild Side Riders Zebra as part of their new fall line.  Both lightweight ride-on toys feature adorable animal character designs which will appeal to both toddlers and preschoolers.

It took about 30 minutes to assemble the Giraffe and everything required is included minus a hammer.  I always enjoy putting the kid’s toys together because it gives me a sense of accomplishment.  This wasn’t particularly difficult to put together, however, I did have to reference the instruction sheet several times to ensure it was assembled correctly.  If you have an older child, you could enlist their assistance in putting the two parts of the wheels together, holding the Giraffe steady, or even simply applying the stickers.

Once our Giraffe was complete, we took him out for a ride. My daughter knew what to do since she’s been observing her brother ride a variety of wheeled vehicles.  She scooted along slowly at first, then picked up the pace.  I tried to show her how to use the Giraffe as a pull-toy but she wasn’t particularly interested in using him that way.  She prefers to ride him, striving to catch her brother!

We haven’t owned many ride-on toys, but one of the things I’m most concerned with is safety.  The contoured seat and easy-grip handle ensure even the littlest of riders stay put while riding.  My daughter is 19 months old and I don’t think she would have been ready for the toy 6 months ago. A child should be pretty comfortable walking before attempting to ride.

As I mentioned above, Step2’s Wild Side Riders Giraffe is durable and lightweight.  It doesn’t take up a ton of room and can be used both indoors and outside.  It’s currently on sale for $24.99.
