I was at Starbucks yesterday and I saw a flyer announcing their new breakfast items containing wholesome ingredients. From brown sugar oatmeal to multigrain rolls with almond butter, this “healthier” menu sounded really yummy. I’ve bought both their multigrain rolls and their spinach feta wraps several times when I’ve had to eat breakfast on the run. So I was naturally curious about their claims of guilt-free energy boosts and lighter breakfast/coffee options. I bought a multigrain roll with almond butter and a tall nonfat, decaf mocha. Here is the point breakdown (remembering that I only get 23 in the entire day):
Multigrain roll – 6 points (without the almond butter)
Tall nonfat decaf mocha with whipped cream – 6 points
1 Tbsp of maple almond butter – 2 points
Total: 14 points
The result is that I ended up with 9 points for the rest of the day including lunch, dinner and snacks (yes, I need my snacks). If I decided not to have lunch that day (which of course I did not) then I might have been fine. I usually aim for around 5 or 6 points at breakfast since lunch and dinner are typically heavier meals. I really like Starbucks‘ aim to provide healthier options but if you’re trying to lose weight, I’d suggest you choose this as an occasional treat or just forget the coffee. I don’t even want to know how many points were in that scone I ate the other day…
