Sports Authority Teams Up With Wii Fit Plus *Giveaway*

Posted by Caryn Bailey 469 Comments

This giveaway is now closed.  Thanks so much for stopping by!  The winner is Chastidy.  Congrats!

If you’ve followed my blog, then you know that I used the Wii Fit to lose the baby weight before I got pregnant with our baby girl.  In fact, I now realize that those months when I felt like I wasn’t making any progress, were due to the fact that my body was creating a person!  Hehe!  I honestly think that the Wii Fit was and is an incredible innovation with regards to gaming and fitness.  Children (and adults) no longer have to sit on the couch, controls in hand, peeled to a screen.  I love the way the Wii Fit encourages movement, balance, and commitment to change.

Many of you may have heard that Nintendo has launched an updated version of the Wii Fit, called the Wii Fit Plus.  I can’t say I have personal experience with the updated version, however, the company has expanded on the original software to include new exercises and tools to personalize your fitness routine.  I’m hoping to upgrade mine soon (It’s around $20).

people-yoga-momIn addition, Jillian Michaels’ new Wii game “Fitness Ultimatum 2010” was just released for both the Wii and DS.  To celebrate, Sports Authority has teamed up with Nintendo to create a new way to experience fitness gaming.  On Thursday, November 19 (as in TOMORROW!), you can visit their Torrance, California store with a celebratory launch.  Here is a bit more information about how Sports Authority is collaborating withNintendo to create this experience:

To help customers get to know the Wii better, Sports Authority will create a “We know fit. We know fun.” experience at 102 of their stores. Stores will feature a dedicated area with a demo unit and knowledgeable trainers to help customers try the Wii and Wii Fit Plus before they buy.

Here are the details of the event:

Event Information:
Thursday, Nov. 19
Sports Authority store in Torrance (located at 3610 Torrance Blvd.), CA (just outside of Los Angeles, CA)
Event starts at 9:30 a.m. and runs until mid-day

Event Highlights:
· Jillian Michaels, from “The Biggest Loser,” will be in attendance.
· There will be the “world’s largest Wii Fit Plus” demonstration featuring 102 people. Jillian will be part of the demonstration, doing what she does best – showing folks how to get in shape!
· Lots of items to be given away, including copies of Jillian Michaels’ new Wii game “Fitness Ultimatum 2010“ and Wii Fit Plus boards, as well as other prizes from Sports Authority, Nintendo and Nike.

For more information, check out the Sports Authority site.

Now I know many of you don’t live in Southern California…although I’d love to see you at the event…so…

So far I have started doing a little yoga with my son and running around with him, he is 3 so he wants to run and play and instead of sitting down or saying I am tired I run with him.

No kids at home but I would recommend that you mark your exercise on a calendar like you would have a doctor’s appointment and go take time for yourself. Went to spin class tonight and did 6 min. of ab work at home after.

We have Wii Fit but Jillian’s workout looks cool!

If I’m not mistaken Game informer gave this new version of wii fit an 8 out of 10 review. Must be pretty good considering I seem to remember the first one doing considerably worse than that. Anyway, my wife wants it and so does my sister. I’m always wary of tv and movie licensed games so I’m also somewhat suspicious about this Gillian Michaels fitness thing. I don’t know anything about it, but I’d be willing to be that the Wii fit is going to blow it’s doors off. Thanks for the update!

I fit in exercise “informally” by walking instead of driving to the store, walking the dog, carrying the groceries and laundry by myself, and dancing or playing on the floor with the little peeps and pets. In my son’s infancy, I pushed his stroller or carriage for walks, and sang and walked him to sleep many a night! Moms get plenty of “free” exercise anyway, don’t you think?

When I work out, (not as often as I should) I have taken my oldest on a run with me. I also will sometimes workout in our basement while my youngest plays with his toys in the playroom part of the basement. This way he is close by. Sometimes he even comes over to get in on the fun. 🙂

The way that I get extra exercise it to walk as much as possible. I always park in the last parking place in parking lots to get in a few extra steps. My sons always complained and couldn’t understand why I would pass up a front row parking place, but now they just accept it as what we do.

I slacked off exercising for quite a few years because I became ill with many health conditions. Recently I was diagnosed with diabetes and now I am trying to reverse it. I just had a baby last month and I gained so much weight. My plan is to take walk or run in the morning before they wake up and before my husband leave to work. It is going to be difficult to exercise with a newborn and a toddler. I’ve always wanted to buy the wii fit so this would be so awesome to win. It would be nice to work out at home. Thanks for the giveaway.

When my son was little, I fit exercise in by taking the stroller and taking my son out on daily outings in the neighborhood. It was stimulating for him and a good work out for me. I also made a point of squeezing exercise in by doing floor exercises while he napped. Now that my son is older, I get my exercise in early, by waking up a little over a half hour early and working out before he wakes up. I am his snooze alarm. I tell him he has to get up soon, go work out, get in the shower, and wake him when I get out.

    Thank you for the chance!

I desperately wanted to get in shape after having kids but felt helpless. Then I found out that the YMCA has free child watch. We decided to get a membership a few years ago and I go about 2 times per week and sometimes up to 4 times per week. Before the kids were in school, they went into the child watch area and I did my workout then showered at the gym before getting the kids again. It was a turning point for me, both physically and emotionally!

Unfortunately I don’t usually find time to fit in any exercise, so I’m interested in reading all the hints you get! I tried recording one of those old Denise Austin exercise shows that are on early in the morning because I thought my 2 girls would have fun doing it with me, plus it’s free and I wouldn’t have to find time by myself to be able to work out. My 5-year-old was really into it but my 2-year-old was so frustrated that she couldn’t follow the steps that I had to turn it off. Maybe when she gets older I’ll try it again!

On rainy days, during naptime or before she gets up in the morning I use the Wii Active or do yoga.

I recently lost the first 50 lbs. of the *ahem* certain number that I need to lose. I was able to do it by making myself a priority. For so many years, I just didn’t. I didn’t make the time to do it, and then I made excuses not to. Now, I just exercise every day. Either I get up early in the morning before the rest of the crew or I use naptime (thank God for the 2 hours my 2 year-old takes in the afternoon). Whatever it is, I just make myself do it…every day because I matter. 🙂

I make myself do something every single day. I love to use the elliptical that my husband bought for himself (but doesn’t use), or I use a Biggest Loser DVD whenever I can fit it in. Either first thing in the morning, or I use my 2 year-old’s naptime to work out. I just make myself do it…every day.

It sounds bizarre but use your baby as your weights: laying down, do a chest press, standing, do a chest press, making faces silly faces while you do a big circle in front of you holding him/her! There’s so much and..as s/he gets bigger, and you can still “workout,” you know you’re getting stronger!!

Hello, I have been searching for a Wii Fit plus everywhere, but they seem to be disappearing right off the shelves in every store! If your like me, my family loves to be outside, but our weather doesn’t exactly correspond with our desires! So the Wii Fit plus is an excellent way for an inside easy workout! When my teenagers were mere toddlers, finding time to complete a successful workout wasn’t exactly what you would call a walk in the park. But one way that seemed to work for me was gathering a group of my neighborhood moms and taking turns watching the kids while the others took a walk around the neighborhood. Good idea huh?

I make exercising part of my every day schedule. I eat breakfast and then workout. I either take my daughter for a walk in the jogging stroller or head to my local gym that has a nursery. My best advice—vary your workouts! Try yoga, different cardio machines, fitness classes, videos, etc. Whatever you do—just keep moving!

The best way I fit in exercise is two fold: I belong to a gym that is open 24 hours (who needs sleep?) and I take every opportunity to walk & play with my dog (we both need the exercise & enjoy the time we get to spend goofing around together!) The two ways that I am able to fit exercise in is one by taking my children with me on a walk. I bundle them in the stroller and power walk up and down our road which ends in a cul de sac.
Two my husband is great about taking over when he gets home which gives me time for yoga or a run on the treadmill.

I have been a nanny for years and the little kids are the best to work out with … just use them as weights … lots of arm movements and you can lie on your back with the child on your legs or feet and move your legs around … very easy and lots of fun for both you and the child!

You can make the kids part of the exercise time. Walking with them, pushing the stroller, that counts, just keep the pace up. You can play with the kids with the Wii too. Get the more active games or the exercise programs and have them work out with you.

I don’t do a great job consistently exercising….finding time with my kids and working full time is really hard. What we do do a lot is take family walks. They are usually up for it, but getting my 5 year old to keep up a good pace can be difficult.

Stairs seem to provide a lot of exercise, especially if carrying a little bundle.

I finally got my younger child in preschool, so I exercise while he is at school. I also take the kids to the park and we play tag. Fun for them, and tons of exercise for me!

Take a exercise/swim class at your local YMCA. They usually have daycare available while you exercise or even better your children can join you in a swim class, etc..

jogging with a stroller. the kid enjoys being pushed “real fast” and you get a good workout. i would recommend only doing this at some place with a nice smooth path and little to no hills 😉

It is so hard to do!! My youngest is in K this year so I exercise immediately after I put them on the bus. I usually have to shave off about 5 to 10 minutes of the workout so that I can have 10 minutes exactly to shower and 5 minutes to get ready for work. It makes for a crazy busy morning, but if I don’t do it this way – I never fit it in!

I’m not a mom, but a busy auntie. I get the most exercise the two days a week I babysit my nephew. We play on the playground equipment, take walks and I love to play active games with him.

I have a large family and lots of children. I just lost 6 pounds in 3 weeks by doing aerobics with hand weights in my living room. I exercise late at night and make the family leave the living room. I would say that the important thing is to get into a routine and to realize that not only are you going to look better, but it is so good for your health.

An easy and fun way is to just play with your children! Also, just doing little things like taking stairs instead of elevators, parking farther away in pariking lots, etc. Every little bit helps!
