Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at at the 2019 Oscars . It is no surprise, because this animated film has created a buzz with Spidey and comic fans globally.
Last week, I headed to Sony Animation Studios and got a behind the scenes look at the behind the scenes media tour. I was totally blown away by the amount of work and creativity that goes behind making such an astounding film.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Teen Miles Morales becomes Spider-Man of his reality, crossing his path with five counterparts from other dimensions to stop a threat for all realities.
We met with Sony Story Artist, Denise Koyama. She has worked for 27 years as a story artist for Television, Direct to Video and Features, earning three Annie Award nominations and one Daytime Emmy nomination,and her most notable credits include work on and her most notable credits include work on”Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,”the”Hotel Transylvania”film series , “The Smurfs,” “Surf’s Up,” “Shark Tale,” “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron” and “The Tigger Movie.”
Denise talked about the creative process and how it takes SEVENTEEN HUNDRED drawings to make a three minute scene! I was blown away and inspired as she talked about how her traditional Japanese family initially did not entirely support her career. She started as a Pre-Med student at UCI. She began drawing and making story comic strips at a very young age. She is very passionate and truly inspirational.
We also met with Head of Character Animation Joshua Beveridge at Animation at Sony Pictures Imageworks, who most recently worked on the Studio’s Latest feature film, the Golden Globe® winner and Oscar®-nominated “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”Beveridge joined Imageworks in 2005 and his credits include: “Storks,” “Hotel Transylvania 2,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs,” “I Am Legend,” “Surf’s Up,” “Open Season,” “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” and “Arthur Christmas.
He talked in detail about how the original comic strips were partly influenced the creation of “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animation, and how this unique new spiderman evolved and was created. He also gave us examples of his numerous facial expressions were created. It was pretty amazing to watch the transformations.
The Sony Animation creative team talked about how they collaborated, created, and brought their unique talents to the film creation. This film has a very diverse cast and great story. It is a MUST-SEE.
