Sofia the First Debuts On Disney Junior & Disney Channel

Sofia the First and Cinderella

“It’s Cinderella!” my daughter squealed as we sat inside the Main Theatre at Walt Disney Studios for the movie premiere of Sofia the First: Once Upon A Princess.  At three, she’s enchanted by all-things princess, but I wasn’t sure that she would sit through the 90 minute animated feature.  Surprisingly, she sat quietly, asking questions when appropriate, captivated by Disney’s first Little Girl Princess.

Today, Sofia the First, a new animated series about this adventurous little girl adjusting to her new royal life premieres on Disney Junior and Disney Channel.  Designed for children ages 2-7, the series tells the story of an ordinary girl who becomes a princess after her mother marries the king.  Along her journey to learning how to “be” a princess, she discovers that royalty is much more than saying and doing the “right” things…it’s about honesty, loyalty, compassion, and grace.

In the premiere episode, Just One of the Princes, Sofia aspires to become the first princess to earn a spot on her school’s fling derby team but in the process learns to believe in herself and proves that a princess can do anything she sets her mind to.

As  a parent, I appreciate characters and stories that are not only relatable, but meaningful.  Sofia is kind, caring, happy, and carefree…a wonderful princess role model for my little princess.  The series will address real-life social situations such as fitting in, making friends, building sibling relationships, telling the truth, mastering new skills, good sportsmanship, and how/when to be brave.

We’ve been watching repeat airings of the movie on Disney Junior in anticipation for today’s premiere.  You can watch the very first episode of Sofia the First on Disney Channel at 9:30 am ET/PT and on Disney Junior at 5:30 pm ET/PT.
