As Earth Month draws to a close, I have a few sustainable companies I want to tell you more about. For the most part, I’ve been purchasing products from these companies even before I started reviewing products on my blog. I’m a diligent label reader (something I’ll be talking about in a future post) and strive to avoid a handful of “ingredients” (if that’s what you can call them) including high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, dyes, trans fats, and MSG. There is a lot of controversy surrounding HFCS in particular because some may say that it is “natural” (being corn and all). This post is not aimed at addressing the issue…rather to provide you with a tasty alternative if you’re trying to avoid it. We definitely avoid HFCS but I do enjoy a soda now and then.
One of my favorite all-natural sodas are made by Steaz. I remember the very first time I tried their Sparkling Green Teas a few years ago. I actually don’t need to drink conventional soda because they satisfy that craving. Steaz Sparkling Green Teas are sweetened with organic sugar cane and come in four flavors (Root Beer, Lime, Raspberry and Orange). They used to make a Cola, which was my favorite (tied with Root Beer), but I was told they discontinued it because people preferred and asked for more diverse flavors. The company recently launched their Zero Calorie Sparkling Green Teas, sweetened with Stevia. I had an opportunity to taste them at a brunch in LA last month and they were pretty good (I still prefer their regular Sparkling Green Teas). Steaz Zero Calorie contains no calories, carbs or sugar and packs 120 mg of natural tea antioxidants. If you prefer diet soda to avoid added sugar, calories and carbs, but don’t like the taste or potential health effects of artificial sweeteners, I recommend trying their Zero Calorie Sparkling Green Teas. They’re offered in the following four flavors: raspberry, blueberry, orange, and black cherry.
Steaz recently announced their SEED (Social Environmental & Educational Discovery) Initiative, a grant-giving program for women, by women, that supports causes important to women. The goal is to recognize the impact women make on society. Each year, the company will recognize inspirational individuals that are building a healthier world in areas that relate to the mind, body, soul, and planet through the Healthy SEEDs Award program. The Healthy SEEDs Award consists of a financial grant, product donation and mentorship in areas like marketing, finance, and legal.
Steaz is an impressive company. I encourage you to read more about their dedication “to developing products and practices that benefit people, planet, and profits.” Some of their efforts that set them apart include strong community involvement, offsetting their carbon emissions, and offering Fair Trade Certified and USDA Certified Organic products.
Steaz is sold in retailers nationwide including Whole Foods, Safeway, and Target. For more information on their products or initiatives, just visit their site.
I did not receive compensation for this post. We were treated to brunch and given a gift bag at the event.
