See a Doctor Without Leaving Home

Posted by Caryn Bailey Leave a Comment

This is a compensated campaign in collaboration with the Anthem Blue Cross and #WeAllGrow Latina Network.

See a doctor. It’s a phrase most of us take for granted. As a nurse and a mom, I found myself hugely passionate about advocating for my patients when I worked on the floor. I’d spend any extra time I had providing education to the family about the patient’s treatment plan and ensuring that all of their questions and concerns were addressed. Our healthcare system can be difficult to navigate, even for patients who have done their homework to try to be as knowledgeable as possible. And for patients who don’t speak English, the barriers are even greater.

I had an opportunity to experience first-hand what it is like to see a doctor in a healthcare facility in another country with providers who did not speak English. The result was that the information conveyed was misunderstood, leading to unnecessary worry and angst.

Blue Cross Makes it Easier for Hispanics to See a Doctor

With the Hispanic population continuing to grow in our country, it is important to address those barriers that make the ability to see a doctor so difficult. For the very first time in California, Spanish-speaking Anthem Blue Cross members can see a doctor for a non-emergency need when their primary physician is not readily available. Using a smartphone or tablet, members can see a doctor via a live video visit with a US-based, board-certified, Spanish-speaking physician of their choice to discuss common health conditions from the comfort of their home, office, or location of choice. This will undoubtedly have a remarkable impact on the lives of Spanish-speaking members with even greater access to health care resources.

LiveHealth Online - See a Doctor

Cuidado Médico on LiveHealth Online

Anthem Blue Cross understands the importance of speaking to members in their native language. This helps members to feel comfortable discussing their medical concerns and ensures that the information conveyed is accurate. Cuidado Médico on LiveHealth Online is a new resource that will help Spanish-speaking members access to quality health care at a time and place that is convenient.

When a member uses Cuidado Médico on LiveHealth Online to see a doctor, the physician can access a member’s condition, provide a treatment plan and send a prescription to a local pharmacy if needed.

This resource is ideal for members with non-urgent medical concerns including cold and flu symptoms, rashes, and mild gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea to see a doctor quickly and easily.

Online Medical Visit - See a Doctor

How to Schedule an Online Medical Visit

Anthem Blue Cross members can access Cuidado Médico on LiveHealth Online from 7 am to 11 pm PST, 365 days a year (including holidays!) using the free LiveHealth Online app. This is a covered benefit under member health care plans and the cost of the visit is often the same or less than a regular office visit. Affordable and convenient, scheduling an online visit can save members time since they don’t have to take time out of their work schedule to see a doctor at an office or urgent care facility.

It should be noted that any California resident who is not covered by Anthem Blue Cross or does not have medical insurance can access Cuidado Médico on LiveHealth Online in Spanish for $49 per visit.
