My love for theater began as a young girl after a mother-daughter afternoon watching Annie. From the moment I observed the actress singing “Tomorrow,” I made it my goal to see every National Tour that stopped at the Ahmanson or Pantages Theaters as a twenty something year old woman. These days, some of the best productions can be seen at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts including national tours of some of the leading Broadway shows.
Uniquely designed as both an arts institution and a multi-discplinary cultural campus, the SCFTA presents a wide variety of performances year-round including their Family Series which engages and inspires young children through live performance. As part of this programming, the SCFTA will present Schoolhouse Rock Live!, performed by Childsplay October 3rd and 4th, 2014.
Inspired by the hit cartoon series Schoolhouse Rock, this production will follow the story of Tom, a nerve-wracked school teacher anxious about his first day of teaching. To help calm his nerves, he watches TV where various characters representing facets of his personality merge from the set to show him how to win his students over with imagination and music.
Childsplay has updated the sounds of popular hits like “Conjunction Junction” and “Just a Bill” and the show’s design will feature a fresh new perspective on the popular cartoon series. Additionally, the new Holly Windingstad set will reflect the digital age, influenced by ’80s video games like Tetris and current favorites like Minecraft.
Audiences are invited to arrive at the SCFTA early for free pre-show, creative play activities one hour before each performance. Schoolhouse Rock Live! is ideal for children between the ages of 4 and 8 and the run-time is approximately 1 hour. Tickets start at just $20 and can be purchased online at SCFTA.org or, via phone (714.556.2787), or at the Box Office.
