For years we’ve known that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. The very meaning of the word, when broken down, is simply to “break the fast.” Have you ever thought about how long that stint is from dinner to breakfast? In our home, it’s as many as 12 hours! For children, who depend on the regular intake of nutrient-rich foods, the negative effects can manifest physically, behaviorally, and/or intellectually. Adults looking to lose weight may find skipping breakfast to as the reverse effect (weight gain).
So why is a meal, that is so obviously important, still skipped by one in five Americans (60 million people)? Lack of time is often cited as a top reason for skipping breakfast, but insufficient knowledge of it’s importance is also a contributing factor. To address the challenges Americans face with regards to breakfast, got milk? created The Breakfast Project.
Salma Hayek unveiled her new milk mustache print ads and TV commercials last Friday in Beverly Hills. She teamed up with celebrity TV chef Ellie Krieger and the National Milk Mustache got milk? campaign to launch The Breakfast Project, an online resource featuring unique breakfast recipes, insights from other real moms and a Breakfast Learning Lab. There is both an English and a Spanish website and visitors can go to the project’s Facebook page to share stories, connect with others in the community, and learn how to get a free gallon of milk.
Here are a few photos from our breakfast:

While I am not really into the celeb circle I think this is a great cause as real nutrition in this country is rather sad. We need real whole foods, not overly processed junk.
