On Tuesday night, the Pantages Theatre, Hollywood’s prominent venue for live theater and Broadway musicals, beared the semblances of a rock concert, as strobing lights and an emphatic band rocked the house! The five-time Tony Award-nominated show Rock of Ages, debuted for a second, limited run in Los Angeles this week, complete with big hair, ripped jeans, and a dose of nostalgia.
This unconventional show follows the love story of aspiring rock musician Drew Boley and small-town girl Sherrie Christian, set to the music of the 80’s. Rock of Ages is upbeat and comical, never taking itself (or it’s characters) too seriously. As predictable as the story is, it’s the music that patrons will be humming long after the curtain has closed. The band is phenomenal, performing songs by Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Pat Benatar, and Whitesnake with precise accuracy.
