R & R at The Huntington Spa

Posted by Caryn Bailey 2 Comments

I remember when I could pop in to see my makeup artist for an eyebrow shaping or to my local salon for a mani/pedi on a whim.  These days, I struggle to find the time and resources (i.e. babysitting) to pamper myself.  Everything must be planned and scheduled.

In the busyness of back to school and the holidays, it’s important to schedule a little time for rejuvenation.  Two weeks ago, I received some much needed pampering at The Huntington Spa, located at the Langham Huntington in Pasadena, California.  I was quite surprised to learn that the hotel was once known as the Ritz Carlton (a hotel I was at 10 years ago for a wedding).

The 11,000 square foot spa is located towards the front of the hotel property and offers unique massage therapies, facials, and body treatments to revitalize and relax you.  The spa is spacious and offers several relaxation areas complete with self-serve refreshments.  Whether you’re planning on getting one treatment, or making a day of it, be sure to allow extra time to relax in the steam room, sauna, and/or hot tub.

One of the unique aspects of the spa is the Chuan Body + Soul corridor, which offers treatments based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).  As part of the spa’s Back to School Package for Moms, I received a thirty minute Chuan Neck, Back and Shoulder Massage.  When I arrived at the spa, I filled out a questionnaire about the imbalances in my life (which are apparently affected by diet, seasons, and bio-rhythms).  Once the therapist looked over my answers, she suggested an oil to be used during the acupressure massage.  Now, I don’t know much anything about Chinese Medicine, but I was quite relaxed and rejuvenated after that massage.

I don’t typically fall asleep during a massage, but I could have were it not for the mani/pedi I was to receive.  The package also includes a twenty-five minute Spa Manicure and a fifty-minute Walk in the Clouds Pedicure.  I’m embarrassed to admit that I hadn’t received a mani/pedi since I was pregnant with my daughter.  My hands, feet, and nails looked and felt so much better after a little TLC.  The pedicure included a lower leg exfoliation, stimulating mask, and foot massage.  I had forgotten how wonderful it is to receive a pedicure…particularly one so comprehensive.  The mani/pedis are done in the salon part of the spa which also offers makeup application and hair services.

When I walked into the spa, I was greeted immediately.  Their attention to service and detail is impeccable.  I was also impressed and calmed with the lovely aromatic smell of the spa (it just smelled really good inside).  The treatments were timely and done in a relaxing, but professional manner.  It was the little things, like when the therapist asked me if I was cold, that I appreciated the most.

A visit to the spa typically results in the discovery of a new skin care product (especially when I get a facial).  The Huntington Spa boutique features exclusive product lines from Chuan, BABOR, Skinceuticals, Clarisonic, Jane Iredale, and OPI.

The spa features 13 treatments rooms and a couples’ suite.  There could have been a number of people in the spa but I  felt like I had adequate space and quietness to relax because of the number of areas available to relax in.

If you’re planning on staying at the Langham Huntington (which looks like an incredible luxury resort), I recommend spending time at the spa, which also houses a Fitness Center with state-of-the-art TechnoGym equipment and daily fitness classes.

Whether you’re in Pasadena for a weekend or just a day, the Huntington Spa is a luxurious place to relax and rejuvenate.  Their Back To School Package for Moms is described as follows:

Created for luxurious relaxation for mom in mind now that  the children are back in school, the Back to School Package includes a Chuan Neck, Back and Shoulder Massage, which is a deep acupressure oil massage focusing on the neck, back and shoulders (30 minutes); a Spa Manicure, our signature manicure treatment (25 minutes); and a Walk in the Clouds Pedicure, which includes lower leg exfoliation, a stimulating mask and foot massage (50 minutes) – all for just $180 (regularly priced at $220).

For more information about the specials the spa is running, just visit their website.

No compensation was received for this post. I was invited to the spa for services which helped facilitate this review.

Oh, that sounds like heaven. I would love to be pampered like that. I haven’t had a pedicure in SO long. I’m glad you got some time for yourself.
