I love to bake…not only because it’s relaxing, but because I tend to have a sweet tooth. While cooking is something that takes thought and precision, baking is something that I do with ease. I enjoy the freedom to be creative and attempt to create unique twists on the traditional whenever possible.
This year, Smart & Final is celebrating their 140th birthday. I remember shopping at the non-membership warehouse as a child with my parents. Now I’m shopping and saving with my own family.
While you’ll definitely find low prices on items at Smart & Final, be on the look out for their First Street line which offers foods in a variety of categories equivalent in quality to national brands at competitive prices. You’ll find everything from deli and dairy to frozen and packaged foods and products.
I visited the grocer which is like a supermarket, warehouse, and farmer’s market in one and was quite impressed with their offerings. Not only does the location have a very expansive selection of products, their produce section is incredible.
I’ve teamed up with Smart & Final to showcase some of their First Street products and decided to show you two delectable treats. The first is a mixed berry crepe. I found most of the ingredients at SmartCo Foods minus the crepes. For time-saving purposes, I opted to purchase prepared crepes, however, with enough time, you could easily make them yourself. The second is an island twist on the traditional mixed berry smoothie. The addition of coconut milk gives this smoothie a sweet, creamy twist.
Mixed Berry Crepes
First Street Berry Medley (found in the frozen section and includes strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries)
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup sugar
8 ounces of cream cheese
Crepes
Combine berries, orange juice, and sugar in a saucepot over medium heat. Cook until thickened. Set aside to cool.
Warm crepes in a skillet over low heat for about 1 minute.
Spread a layer of cream cheese on the crepe. Fill with fresh berries.
Roll and drizzle with sauce.
Top with a scoop of First Street Ice Cream or First Street Whipped Light Cream (or both).
Island Berry Smoothie
1 ripe banana
Juice from 1 fresh orange
1 scoop of First Street Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
1/4 cup of coconut milk
3/4 cup frozen First Street Berry Medley
Fresh Mint Leaves
First Street Whipped Light Cream
Blend all ingredients except fresh mint leaves and whipped cream until smooth. Top with fresh mint leaves and whipped cream. Serve immediately.
