Every year, Macy’s puts on a Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City to kick off the holiday season. The parade, which features superb marching bands, giant character, novelty, and ornament balloons, and elaborate floats, is held in New York City on Thanksgiving morning.
In 2010, Po, from the hit DreamWorks film Kung Fu Panda, made his heroic Thanksgiving Day debut at the parade. He has been touring around the country since mid-April in the first ever National Balloon Tour. This morning, he concluded his tour at the Arclight Hollywood, perfectly timed for the film’s opening. At 42-feet tall, 46-feet long and 34-feet wide, he’s quite a spectacular site to see, particularly given the fact that he’s posed in one of his signature martial arts moves from the film. The action-packed day included face painters, balloon animals, kung fu / martial arts demonstrations and a traditional lion dance.
I’ve yet to see the Kung Fu Panda 2 (we’re hoping to catch it next week), but from the reviews, it sounds like an action-packed, heartwarming family-friendly film. In the sequel, “Po is now living his dream as The Dragon Warrior, protecting the Valley of Peace alongside his friends and fellow kung fu masters, The Furious Five. But Po’s new life of awesomeness is threatened by the emergence of a formidable villain, who plans to use a secret, unstoppable weapon to conquer China and destroy kung fu. Po must look to his past and uncover the secrets of his mysterious origins; only then will he be able to unlock the strength he needs to succeed (DreamWorks).”
