Adventure, special effects, and a hearty meal await you at Pirate’s Dinner Adventure, hailed as the world’s most interactive dinner show. From the moment I told my son we’d be attending the show, he could not stop talking about it. The show, which celebrates it’s 5th anniversary this year, recently debuted their second adventure, The Curse of Poseidon’s Treasure (Captain Sebastian’s Revenge is the original). Following the debut of this new adventure, guests can select the one that excites them most. We were treated to a special preview of Curse of Poseidon’s Treasure, which follows Freddie and Katherine, two explorers from our time who cross paths with pirates from long ago. This show is filled with legends and myths of the sea, mystery, and action and features special effects, aerial artistry, swashbuckling swordplay, and dynamic duels.
From the moment you walk in, you’re transported to another time and place. Be sure to arrive early as pirates greet you with a mostly friendly arrrrgh, a little pre-show entertainment, and a tray of passed appetizers (doors open an hour and half before the scheduled show-time).
The audience (which maxes out at 150) is divided into color-coded teams and seated accordingly in one of six “ships.” The stage itself is quite impressive, featuring an authentically replicated 18th century Spanish galleon (aka ship) anchored in a 250,000 gallon indoor lagoon with night sky lighting. Because the audience is seated around the ship views are mostly unobstructed. Before the show, drinks and soup or salad is served. The meal includes an oven roasted half chicken or BBQ pork loin and accompanied by a broccoli floret and rice or mashed potatoes. The only difference with regards to the kid’s menu is that mini sliders are served in place of the meat. Dessert (apple cobbler a la mode) and coffee are included.
During the show, the cast invites the audience to participate and children have an opportunity to be part of the action. The show is engaging and interactive and features stunts, acrobatics and pyrotechnics. My 3 1/2 year old son, who can’t typically sit for long, was glued to his seat, eyes fixed on the stage from beginning to end. I was surprised that he was so into the story itself and was able to recall several of the scenes.
The meal itself was better than I expected, considering the venue is feeding 750 guests. I would definitely like to be offered a few options (i.e. rice v. mashed potatoes, different vegetables) but the entire meal was tasty. I was also impressed with the fact that my food-allergic son could eat most of the menu items (sans the potatoes and dessert). Tickets are a bit pricey (adults $56.95, children $37.95), however, guests receive dinner and a live-action show. If you order online (which I highly recommend), you’ll save $10 on an adult ticket and $5 on a child’s ticket. Be sure to keep an eye on deal websites like Screamin Daily Deals as I saw a half-price offer in January.
