I was first introduced to Paella by my father, who was an avid seafood lover. The rice dish, which originated in Spain, is often cooked with green beans, meat, white beans, snails and seasoned with saffron and rosemary. I am most familiar with seafood paella, which omits the beans and green vegetables and replaces the meat with seafood. For a Summer treat, you can enjoy delicious tasting paella at this year’s Orange County Paella Wine Festival.
Celebrate Hispanic Culture
To celebrate Hispanic Culture and Spanish cuisine, the Orange County Fair and Event Center will host the first Paella Wine & Beer Festival on August 26th, 2017. This one-day festival will feature authentic paellas and tapas españolas by renowned Southern California-based chefs, selections of sangrias, beer, wine and cocktails from event sponsors and local vendors. Much like a Spanish open-air market, the festival will include live entertainment such as Flamenco and Spanish rock and local vendors offering cultural art and more.
The Paella Wine & Beer Festival 2017
The Paella Wine & Beer Festival will present 80 different kinds of paella for attendees to enjoy, created by nearly 50 local chefs. These chefs will compete with their unique, original recipe for an opportunity to represent the US at the World Paella Championship in Sueca, Valencia, Spain. The panel of experts judging each paella largely come from Spain, making this an important event for local chefs to gain notoriety. During the festival, attendees will also witness the making of a giant paella by Villa Roma Chef Leo Razo, capable of serving 3,000 people.
There will be events taking place in Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County, so be sure to visit PaellaWineFest.com for details including dates, times, and locations. The Orange County event will take place on August 26th, 2017 from 5 pm to 9 pm. Online tickets can be purchased before the event for $50 at eventslanding.com. Day-of tickets will cost $65. A portion of all ticket sales will be donated to CANICA USA, a nonprofit organization which raises funds to grant wishes for impoverished children living with cancer in Mexico and South America.
