Our Hop Inspired Playdate

Posted by Caryn Bailey 7 Comments

A few times a month, I get together with 2 other moms for playdates.  Sometimes we’ll head over to the park for a few hours…other times we’ll simply hang out at one of our homes chatting while the kids play together. I love this time together because the three of us get to catch up and spend time together while our children are nearby.

Over the weekend, we decided to make it a movie night.  We grabbed a quick dinner together and then popped in Universal Pictures’ latest Blu-ray/DVD release, Hop.  I remember so clearly how much my son enjoyed the film last year and with Easter just a few days away, it seemed fitting. On a side note, my son still has this make believe game he plays with my mom where he is E.B., the young rabbit and star of the film  (more on that in a dedicated post).

This live-action, comedic, Easter-themed movie details the story of E.B., a rabbit destined to succeed his father as the Easter Bunny.  But E.B. has different ideas. He wants to pursue music and is intimidated by the demands that the role would require.  Rather than confront his father with his dreams and reservations about the succession, he runs away.  Along the way, he meets Fred (James Marsden), who is out of work and lacking drive.  It is through the adventures and mishaps of this unlikely pair that they learn about friendship, family, and pursuing one’s dreams.

When we saw the film in the theater, I was afraid the live-action aspect wouldn’t hold my son’s attention. But in fact, he was so intrigued by the back and forth that he kept chatting with me throughout the film, asking appropriate questions and telling me bits and pieces about the plot.

During our viewing party, the kids watched, chatted, and danced during the movie.  It helped that all of them had seen the film at least once.

The following day, my son asked me if we could have another party because he had such a great time.  It was just the four of us, but we ordered pizza, made popcorn, and watched the film again.

Owning the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack has a ton of perks.  My husband is kind of obsessed with watching every single special feature offered on a disc.  Phil’s Dance Party is our favorite and features our favorite chick dancing!

For a limited time, you can get a free 7″ Bunny Minion Plush when you purchase the Blu-ray Combo Pack at Best Buy and free wearable bunny ears and a printable Easter party kit when you buy the same combo pack at Target. For specifics, just visit the website.

No compensation was received for this post.  A viewing kit and a gift card were provided.

We rented hop while I was cleaning. I came into the room at he was at the gate of the playboy mansion. My boys were like “hey, we got there are play with the bunnies!” (meaning they play with the live rabbit they have there) ….It took me a second to realize I did indeed rent them a kid’s movie! LOL
