On Wednesday night, the ultimate Disney fans received the ultimate Disney experience when D23 and Disney collaborated to invite approximately 200 members to the red carpet for the world premiere of John Carter. The premiere, which was held at L.A. Live due to Hollywood’s preparation for the upcoming Academy Awards, brought out some of Hollywood’s most notable filmmakers and celebrities.
To be honest, I didn’t know much about the film beyond the trailers I previewed and the one sheet I read. And while I’m still under embargo until closer to the film’s March 9th release date, I can tell you that I was really taken aback by how much I enjoyed the film. While I expected the film to be action-packed, I didn’t expect to be as captivated by the story. The film is based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic novel A Princess of Mars and details the story of John Carter, a Virginian and former military captain who is transported to Mars, becoming entangled in a conflict between the planet’s nations. Carter soon realizes his role in helping to save Barsoom and it’s people. The film was directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker directed by Andrew Stanton and stars Taylor Kitsch as the epic John Carter.
Before the film, D23 members lined one side of the red carpet in an exclusive viewing area and walked the star-studded red carpet.
Here are some photos and a video from the evening (scroll over to identify the celebrities pictured):
John Carter opens in theaters on March 9, 2012.

You had me at Taylor Kitsch!
I was a huge Friday Night Lights fan and he was great as the tough but tender Riggins. I’m so happy to see him as the lead in a major Disney flick!

There was a boy in elementary school named John Carter who had a crush on me. I may have been his first heartbreak. I’m glad to hear the film isn’t about him.
