I like a good workout. You know the ones where you come home feeling sore enough to convince you that results are imminent but not so much so that you need a hot shower, a massage, and a nap to recover?
I tried Stroller Strides this past week. I have to say that this is the best workout I’ve done in a really long time. It’s amazing how you can attain a total-body workout with a stroller (I highly recommend a jogger) and resistance tubing in sixty minutes. I’ll be honest…there are weeks when I do really good to get to the gym once or twice. And then there are weeks like the present where I’ve yet to even think about possibly taking a venture outside for a walk, let alone the gym. What I really like about Stroller Strides is the fellowship and accountability that goes along with the workout. Can this type of workout be done on your own? Sure. But are you really going to work out with your baby and your stroller all by yourself? Consistently?
The instructor guides you through the routine highlighting the high and low intensity workout options so that your workout is individualized for your personal level of fitness. The class was a combination of sprints (well, other mommies sprinted, I walked really fast!) and resistance work with an abs section at the end. As long as your doctor has cleared you for exercise you can begin the Stroller Strides workout. In my class their were mommies six to eight weeks postpartum and those with toddlers.
One of the things that concerned me was whether or not my son was going to get fussy during the workout. Now that he’s a year old, his fussiness is usually related to boredom if he’s already had a nap and been fed and changed. To be honest, he loved babbling with the other babies and smiling at mommy and her silly attempts to entertain him. If your baby gets fussy during the workout (which is inevitable at some point if you decide to join) the instructors try to entertain your baby. You always have the freedom to tend to your child if he/she needs to be changed, fed, or just held.
Another great aspect of Stroller Strides is the partnership it has with Luna Moms Club. Each month you’ll have the opportunity to participate in playdates, moms’ night outs, and other family activities at no extra cost.
