Last week, I had an opportunity to talk to one of my all-time favorite authors Nicholas Sparks while on-set for his latest book-turned-film, The Best of Me. This was my second face-to-face conversation with the author, who’s literary works captivated me when I first watched A Walk to Remember. His writing is gripping, perfectly capturing the range and depth of human emotion and I’ve not picked up a book that I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed.
Having read a number of his books and seen nearly all of his film adaptations, I was excited to learn that May is Nicholas Sparks Month at Walmart! His latest book, The Longest Ride, was just released and Walmart has a special edition featuring cowboy Jory Markiss on the cover. The regular retail price of the book is $15.00 but you can get it at Walmart for just $13.50 PLUS find deals on his other books for as low as $8 and DVDs for $4.88.
Some of my personal Sparks favorites include The Notebook, The Lucky One, Message in a Bottle, Safe Haven, and The Last Song, all of which I saw housed on a special display at my local Walmart.
The Longest Ride – Walmart Exclusive
If you purchase Walmart’s exclusive edition of The Longest Ride, you’ll also receive a $3 Vudu code that can be used towards a digital download. I just started reading the book and I can’t put it down! In this duo love story, readers follow the journey of Ira Levinson, a 91-year old man who finds himself stranded on an isolated embankment after sustaining a car crash. As he struggles to maintain consciousness until help arrives, images of his deceased wife Ruth come to mind, urging him to hang on. Ira recounts stories of their life together…the sorrows and joys that defined their marriage. Simultaneously, Sparks seamlessly intertwines the love story of Sophia and Luke, a senior in college and a young cowboy residing just a few miles away. Luke introduces Sophia to a world she isn’t familiar with…one filled with danger and excitement… Sparks parallels enduring and new love in a book that spans time. The film adaptation of the book is scheduled for release next April, 2015 and is currently in pre-production.
