7 Reasons to Dine at Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant

Posted by Caryn Bailey Leave a Comment

I walked inside Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant a few weeks ago and felt like I was in a different place. The restaurant, which dates back to 1934, has undergone a complete restoration with a fresh, farmhouse chic motif and nostalgic touches.

Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant holds special meaning for Knott’s Berry Farm, as it was the catalyst for gaining the theme park recognition. The theme park sits on-site of the former berry farm that Walter Knott established with his wife Cordelia. The family sold berries, berry preserves and pies from a roadside stand along State Route 39 in 1920, and by 1934, they began selling fried chicken dinners in a tea room on-site. Because of its popularity, the Knotts family constructed shops and attractions in the vicinity to keep visitors entertained.

With a gorgeous, expansive new space and an authentic menu you’ll love, here are 10 Reasons to Dine at Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant.

1. Knott’s has preserved the family’s recipes for authentic cuisine you know and love. The menu is mostly unchanged and features signature favorites like Mrs. Knott’s fried chicken and boysenberry pie.

2. You can dine al fresco. Southern California’s idyllic climate means you can enjoy a light lunch or a hearty chicken dinner with views of GhostRider.

3. And enjoy a cocktail. Cool off with a boysenberry martini, a boysenberry margarita or a boysenberry beer at the new full-service bar.

4. Or have breakfast. Who doesn’t love a traditional, hearty breakfast? Now you can enjoy waffles, French toast, omelettes and more before heading to the park.

5.  Take a step back in time. As I mentioned earlier, The Tea Room was the restaurant’s first dining room. While it has been redesigned, the room still features a booth inspired by the original seating arrangements that offer views of the California Marketplace.

6. You can dine family-style. With spacious, expansive seating and large dining rooms, Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner Restaurant is ideal for large groups and families who want to enjoy an authentic, chicken dinner. Their family-style meals also make it convenient to enjoy your favorites including fried chicken, biscuits and boysenberry pie.

7. You can shop while you wait. With the restaurant’s new text message system, you can spend your time shopping at California Marketplace until your table is ready.

The ambience of the restaurant is compelling and you’ll want to visit each dining room to see the nods to Cornelia’s Kitchen. Each dining room is uniquely designed with intentional, creative touches like a potbelly stove, rustic furnishings, and more. Details like the fact that the registration booth features wood fabricated from the historic Wagon Camp Theatre tell the story of how integral the restaurant was and still is to Knott’s Berry Farm.
