Earlier this week, my mom and I were talking about possible gift and experience ideas to celebrate each other this Mother’s Day. It’s a challenge we face yearly, particularly because we aren’t materialistic and we want the gifts we provide each other with to be meaningful and useful. As we brainstormed gift ideas, I started perusing Walmart’s Made in the USA products, an initiative launched two years ago that continues to gain momentum. Two years ago, Walmart announced that it would purchase an additional $50 billion in US products in 10 years with a goal of growing U.S. manufacturing and therefore sparking the creation of U.S. jobs. For many consumers, knowing where the products they are purchasing were made is important. Additionally, many consumers (including myself) purchase products made in the USA for economic reasons to support our local economy. In the last 2 years, Walmart has realized a number of positive effects including the following
- Products are produced closer to the point of consumption, which allows Walmart the opportunity to react quickly to customer demand. Additionally, Walmart is able to save or even cut transportation, energy and inventory costs.
- Walmart’s investment of $250 billion has helped create jobs across the country, thereby revitalizing communities.
- Walmart’s selection of US-made products is outstanding and expansive
