Mother’s Day 2009: Vinyl Silhouettes

Posted by Caryn Bailey Leave a Comment

Up until a few months ago, I had no idea that silhouettes were a unique, creative, memorable way to decorate.  Just ask my friend and fellow blogger Linda…she’s obsessed with them!  We recently decorated my son’s room but we still had one empty wall, right above his crib.

Thanks to Vinyl Silhouettes, we have a lovely, artistic, custom head profile of my son in his room. So you may be wondering (as I was), what exactly is a Vinyl Silhouette?  Here is a description from the site:

Think of them as high quality decorative stickers! These custom silhouettes are the thickness of a single coat of paint and resemble hand-painted art work.
One of the ways I like to incorporate pictures of my family is through my home decor.  It’s much more personal and warm that way.  I want someone to walk into our home, and see it as a place where we’ve share many memories. One of the things I like about Vinyl Silhouettes is their versatility.  You can use them on artist canvas, walls, glass, plates, in picture frames, on cars, signs, inside, outside, and anywhere else your imagination takes you.  Ordering is as simple as sending in a photo, choosing your desired size (up to 30″ tall and 22″ wide), and your desired color.  You can choose from a head profile, full-body, half-body, object, and pet silhouettes.  The company also offers custom vinyl lettering and stock vinyl decals.

The silhouette went on easily (we just followed the instructions on peeling, sticking, and rubbing the decal on the wall) and  looks like it was painted on (rather than a sticker).  Vinyl Silhouettes can be used for a classic, formal look in a living room or a fun way to brighten up a child’s room.  The silhouette is durable and will last indefinitely indoors and for many years outdoors.  I only wish you could change the location after it’s been stuck (although I’m happy where mine is at).    If you’re stuck on ideas, visit their “Idea Gallery.”  The site also has tips on how to choose the most appropriate photo (or how to take a photo that will work well as a silhouette).  Pricing starts at $38 for a head profile and prices vary according to your preferences.
This Mother’s Day, why not offer that special mom in her life, a customized, personalized Vinyl Silhouette of her children?
