Earlier this week, I offered to serve as a panelist for a discussion about kids and technology. We talked a lot about screen time…how much time is spent in front of the computer, television, smart phone, or other hand-held gaming/learning device. I came away from the discussion with a renewed commitment to use screen time for my son’s benefit.
I’m very careful about how much television my children watch because I know how watching one show can turn into two (or three or more). I also strive to be in-the-know about the programs my son is exposed to so that I’m certain the content is appropriate. One of his long-standing favorite shows is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Disney Junior. Disney recently released Minnie’s Masquerade, which features four previously aired episodes and a brand new episode. Some packages include both the DVD and the Mickey Mote for a an enhanced, interactive experience.
Last year, we reviewed the Mickey Mote, which transforms the conventional Mickey-themed television show into a learning experience. The Mickey-shaped control, which features colored shapes instead of buttons, enables children to respond to questions posed throughout the episode, rather than simply observing passively. The Discovery Mode feature, which an be accessed on the main screen, offers two levels of play to challenge children as they grow. At present, there are 11 titles that feature the Discovery Mode including Minnie’s Masquerade.
The latest release draws on a child’s love of pretend play and dress-up and follows Mickey, Minnie and the gang as they get ready for the Masquerade Ball. Along the way, they make royal crowns for their costumes, search for Goofy’s lost shoe, and string paper lanterns as decorations all while learning about friendship, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Minnie’s Masquerade is currently available on DVD for $29.99 (price includes the Mickey Mote). You can also purchase three eligible titles and receive the Mickey Mote for free.
No compensation was received for this post. A copy of the DVD was provided which helped to facilitate this review.
