This is the time of year when I spend seemingly endless amounts of time in the kitchen getting my holiday foodie fix on and right beside me you’ll often find one or both of my sidekicks cracking eggs or mixing things up. I’ve always been a proponent of bringing children into the kitchen because the life skills they absorb can’t be learned through textbooks. The producers of FOX’s popular show MasterChef Junior obviously understand the value of getting kids into the kitchen early and their reality TV show MasterChef is proving to be a hit among fans.
Debuting for its second season, MasterChef Junior features 16 of the best junior home cooks in a culinary competition with high stakes. Contestants are selected from across the country and coached by award-winning chef Gordon Ramsay, restaurateur/wine expert Joe Bastianich, and acclaimed chef Graham Elliot. These young hopefuls between the ages of 8 and 13 will face exciting challenges which include a mystery box, a three-legged race and a restaurant takeover. At the end of the season, one very talented kid will be named America’s newest MasterChef Junior and awarded a prize of $100,000.
In the first episode of the season, The Next Generation, the 16 chosen junior chefs will prepare dishes featuring Season 1 winner Alexander Weiss’ favorite ingredients. The winner will then be asked to select the proteins used in the elimination round where 4 junior chefs will be cut. You can catch an encore of the Season Two Premiere this Friday, November 7th at 8/7C on FOX.
