A couple of weeks ago, I was rejuvenated by the fact that our days are getting a bit longer which means Spring will be here soon. It feels like we were just celebrating the new year along with the Epiphany (aka Three Kings Day). Mardi Gras is around the corner, and because I had never really studied these carnival celebrations, I thought I’d do a bit of reading. Interestingly enough, Mardi Gras is part of a series of celebrations beginning with the Epiphany and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday (which marks the beginning of Lent). The term Mardi Gras means “Fat Tuesday” and practices include eating richer foods before the fasting that signifies the season of Lent.
I had never researched Mardi Gras so I thought this was quite interesting and gave some context to the celebrations that characterize this day. We’re not in New Orleans, where some of the largest and most noteworthy parades, balls, and parties take place, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have your own celebration right here in Orange County. Celebrate Mardi Gras at The Melting Pot in Irvine and Brea beginning March 2nd through March 6th. The fondue restaurant will offers a new, limited-time Cajun-inspired 3-course menu and delightful cocktail specials. Here is a sneak peek at what you can expect:
New Orleans Cheddar Cheese Fondue
Andouille sausage, fresh garlic and blackened seasoning mixed with lager beer and a cheddar cheese blend, topped with chopped scallions and
served with fresh bread and assorted seasonal vegetables.
French Quarter
Premium filet mignon, all-natural breast of chicken, and Pacific White Shrimp seasoned with Cajun spices and accompanied by flavorful Andouille sausage.
Served with a variety of vegetables and sauces for dipping.
Bourbon Pecan Dark Chocolate Fondue
Dark Chocolate swirled with caramel and flambéed with bourbon. Topped with candy-coated pecans and served with fresh seasonal fruits
and cakes for dipping!
Not only does the menu look absolutely enticing, The Melting Pot is offering an incredible deal at just $30 per person. During the Mardi Gras celebration, both Orange County locations will offer $6 Mardi Gras cocktails and Louisiana’s Abita Amber Ale for $3.75 per bottle.
If you dine at The Melting Pot on Fat Tuesday (March 4th) you’ll also be entered to win a gift basket which includes a $100 Melting Pot Gift Certificate.
Since both locations will likely be busy, I recommend securing your reservation early. For more information, visit their website or your local restaurant:
