Now that I’ve shared a bit of history behind Mardi Gras, why not celebrate with your children by teaching them about the traditions and culture at Pretend City Children’s Museum? This Tuesday, Orange County families are invited to the hands-on, interactive museum for singing, dancing, crafts and a kid-friendly carnival! Here is what you can expect on March 4th in honor of Mardi Gras:
What: Celebrate Mardi Gras at Pretend City along with the grand opening of the Bayou Cafe. In the Art Studio, kids will explore the meaning of the Mardi Gras colors as well as create their very own icon pieces including floats and jazz masks. In the Café, kids will learn how to make their very own Kings Cake and sample Cajun-themed foods. The highlight of the event will be the Carnival (12:30 pm) and kids are invited to participate with toy instruments and a live jazz band, just like the celebrations in New Orleans.
When: Tuesday, March 4th from 10 am to 3 pm
Where: Pretend City Children’s Museum, 29 Hubble, Irvine, CA 92618
Cost: Free with museum admission
My kids have literally grown up at Pretend City and we love how the activities and experiences offered engage and educate them. Where else can you “cook,” pretend to be a fireman, and shop for groceries while learning about math, science, critical thinking and teamwork? The museum regularly hosts events, but the most valuable resource it provides to Orange County Families is their developmental screenings and tools. For more information, visit PretendCity.org.
