One of my favorite things about living in LA was the incredibly vast amount selection of gourmet, ethnic, diverse food! My husband and I are foodies and view dining out as an experience. We typically seek out restaurants that offer food choices that we can’t easily re-create at home. We’ve recently become somewhat addicted to the local food truck scene, since the foods they offer are unique, ethnic-inspired, or creatively fashioned from classic recipes.
This weekend, we’ll get our foodie fix at The Taste, an annual culinary event put on by the Los Angeles Times. Over the course of the 3-day event, guests will enjoy tastings, cooking demos, competitions, and panels.
Here is what is planned for the weekend:
Saturday:
Times Food Editor Russ Parsons and Chef Ray Garcia will host Field to Fork, the kick-off event featuring cooking demos, a conversation with local farmers, and a challenge between chefs David LeFevre and Chef Garcia. At the evening’s Cocktail Confidential guests can sample drinks by mixologist Alex Day.
Sunday:
Join Times Restaurant Critic Jonathan Gold and author/host Evan Kleiman for Flavors of L.A. which will feature authentic dishes from around the world. In the evening, Times Deputy Food Editor Betty Hallock and The Beer Chicks, Hallie Beaune and Christina Perozzi, will host Dinner & Drinks with featured food/wine/beer/cocktail pairings.
Monday:
The culinary weekend will end with a Labor Day Picnic hosted by Times Test Kitchen Director Noelle Carter and Chef Zoe Nathan. We’re spending the day as a family at the picnic which will bring together world-renowned chefs, local firefighters, and other backyard burger champs in a series of events to include a firehouse cook-off (a cooking competition between local firefighters), cooking demonstrations by Zoe Nathan (Milo & Olive, Huckleberry), Nancy Silverton (Mozza, La Brea Bakery), and Judy Jan (Mendocino Farms, Blue Cow) and wine, spirit and beer tastings.
