I remember the year American Idol debuted on Fox for the very first time. Reality television was just beginning to gain momentum and American Idol not only brought together the country’s best, undiscovered talent, it placed their fate in the hands of viewers. Fast forward 13 years and the show is still widely popular, and each season, artists like Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are afforded an opportunity to showcase their talent to the world.
Earlier this Fall, Univision debuted the first Latin American singing competition, which seeks to find talented young men who can sing in English and Spanish. At the end of the series, only 5 finalists will be selected to form the show’s first Latin American boy band.
If you’ve been watching this inaugural first season, you’ve likely picked up on the importance of each young man’s family, particularly their mothers. Walmart has been highlighting this special mother-son relationship through special surprises, like this holiday one from Erick’s mom.
This week, there are just 8 contestants left ahead of the finale. I encourage you to vote for your favorites and have a say in who will be part of the next Latin American boy band.
La Banda was created by Simon Cowell and produced by Ricky Martin (who also serves as one of the show’s judges alongside Laura Pausini and Alejandro Sanz. It airs on Univision at 8 pm/7C.
