I received my first computer when I was in high school, and access to the internet was limited by our landline connection. Conducting research for school papers and projects was tedious, so the occasional AOL instant message was a welcome reprieve. My kids are growing up in a different time, where everything is accessible with a click of a button. Both of my kids text their friends, watch YouTube tutorials, and complete homework assignments online. My challenge is to help them make wise decisions with regards to the content they are engaging with, and one way we are doing that is with a brand new app called Kidomi.
Kids and Technology
As the digital age continues to expand, it is clear that children are accessing the internet at younger ages. According to research conducted by Common Sense Media, 95% of families with kids between the ages of 0 and 8 have smart phones and nearly half of kids in the US have their own mobile device before their 8th birthday. In addition to access, kids are also spending more time online…a number that has tripled from 15 minutes per day to 48 minutes per day in the past 4 years. In our home, limits are essential and as a parent, I want that time spent on devices to be valuable, engaging, educational, and safe.
Kidomi by Fingerprint
Like many parents, I dream of having one app where entertainment and learning converge to keep my kids engaged during screen time. Fingerprint, a leading provider of kids’ digital learning and play content, recently introduced their brand new app Kidomi, which in many ways achieves the balance between education and play. The subscription-based app includes seemingly endless content such as puzzles, games, reading activities, opportunities to create, and much more. The brand’s partnership with leading kids’ franchises makes the app particularly compelling for kids. Featured creators include Crayola, Highlights for Children, My Little Pony, Care Bears, Thomas and Friends, and more.
Kidomi Grows With Your Child
Confession. I am very conservative when it comes to purchasing apps. My kids’ interests change daily, and with my son already reading 4-5 grades above his current grade level, he can get bored easily. The other challenge I have is that free apps are not interesting or compelling enough for my kids, or the in-app purchases frustrate all of us. Fingerprint took kids’ changing interests into consideration when developing Kidomi. The app will change with your child, with new content delivered weekly. The result is seemingly endless playtime.
Learning With Kidomi
As a parent, I value digital experiences that integrate learning. The concern regarding screen time is valid, and I appreciate that the experts at Fingerprint have incorporated experiences mapped to the Common Core Curriculum in the areas of math, reading, and language arts. Kidomi is an app kids will love and parents will feel comfortable having on their kids’ devices.
Setting Parental Controls
Kidomi was designed with kids’ safety in mind. All of the content is targeted towards children 3-8 years old with diverse interests. Parental controls are also inherent within the app which allow parents the ability to monitor their child’s experience. These controls ensure that parents know what their kids are playing and engaging with and include the option of setting time and content limitations.
Kidomi Free 7-Day Trial
Right now, Kidomi is available in the Google Play Store for streaming on Android devices. iOS and web versions will be rolling out soon. Kidomi is currently offering a 7-day free trial when you download the app. After the free trial period, subscriptions can be purchased at $7.99 per month or an annual fee of $59.99 for 12 months. Each subscription offers the ability to create up to three profiles and progress can be synced across 3 devices.
