Our morning routine is relatively uncomplicated. My children wake up, get dressed, and enjoy a nutritious, though often hurried, breakfast. As I was preparing their snacks and lunches, homework, and other school essentials, my mind juggled all of the things on my to-do list. Not for a moment did I stop to think about the fact that breakfast, something our family takes for granted every. single. day., is a challenge for nearly 1 out of 5 children here in the US.
Child Hunger in America
This week, we celebrate National Breakfast Week, and once again, Kellogg’s is a huge proponent of sharing breakfast with children in need. As the most important meal of the day, a child’s academic, social, and behavioral success depends on adequate nutrition every single morning. Kellogg’s has long since believed in the power of a great start. Through Kellogg’s Give a Great Start program, they’ll provide 2 million breakfasts to kids in need.
How can you help?
Admittedly, I could be doing more. I could be volunteering at our local food bank and donating regularly. But these small actions take time and forethought, despite how doable they are. I personally like Kellogg’s social component to their Give a Great Start program because it allows families like ours to make a difference with small but powerful actions.

Best Breakfast?
As a busy mom, I rarely have time during the week to make elaborate meals, particularly when it comes to breakfast. A bowl of cereal and milk, as simple as it sounds, is actually a complete meal and offers children protein, fiber, calcium, Vitamin D and potassium. I also like to add a side of fruit to get in some healthy antioxidants. And if you’re concerned with cost, you’ll be happy to know that a bowl of cereal and milk costs just 50 cents per serving.
In honor of National Breakfast Week, I’ll be showing you some of my favorite breakfasts, all of which include Kellogg’s cereal. Will you join me in helping to provide breakfast to children in need?
