JetBlue Teams Up With PBS Kids For Summer Reading Adventures *Giveaway*

Posted by Caryn Bailey 50 Comments

This giveaway is now closed. Thanks for stopping by. The winner is Melissa P. Congrats!

In just a few short weeks, we’ll be heading on our family vacation.  Along with exploring some of the beauty in our home state, we’ll be embarking on a camping adventure!  We’re aiming to hike, swim, roast S’mores, and enjoy the great outdoors.

The hubby and I are quite accustomed to traveling with our kids.  Last year we drove from the South East to the East coast and  flew across the country to explore the great city of New York with both kids in tow.  I’ve written about many of our tried and true tips for easing travel with children. The main premise behind all of my tips are to anticipate a child’s needs.  Whether it’s hunger, fatigue, over-stimulation or boredom, planning for your children’s physical and emotional needs will make the trip enjoyable and memorable.

One of the things I do when taking a long trip in the car or on a plane is to pack a variety of books, games, and activities for my children.  To encourage children to read wherever their travels take them, JetBlue and PBS Kids have partnered to create Soar With Reading. Parents can download a free reading activity kit on the site, create a summer reading list, glean tips on reading with children, and log their children’s time spent reading.  For every reader who registers on the site, a book will be donated to a child through First Book (up to 10,000 books). As part of the initiative, children traveling on JetBlue flights will also receive a free activity kit which includes reading games based on PBS Kids programming.

JetBlue and PBS Kids are also hosting community reading events across the country where a JetBlue crewmember or a famous author will be reading stories to children in attendance. Here are the details for the Los Angeles event:

When: Tuesday, July 26th at 11:00 am
Where: Inglewood Public Library
101 W. Manchester Blvd.
Inglewood, CA 90301
Phone: (310) 412-5380

Through the Soar With Reading sweepstakes, families can nominate their favorite library for a chance to win $10,000 worth of books from Random House Children’s Books. When you vote, you’ll be registered to win a JetBlue Getaways family vacation to Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas and prize pack valued at over $5,000.

Win It! I have a JetBlue prize pack to giveaway which includes the following:

Soar With Reading Activity Kit

Take-a-Long Hooper

Book (A Good Night for Ghosts)

Steve Songs CD

JetBlue Backpack

young children will recognize signs and symbols for favorite places like fast food restaurants and toy stores. As you ride, point out large signs that are not as familiar. Name the pictures and read the words.

one tip i learned is that License to Ride. Children like to look at license plates and find ones from other states. Play a game with your child and look for the most interesting license plates. Talk about what you like on each one- the color? the design? the letters and numbers? “What state are those people from?” On a long ride, bring paper and crayons. Your child can create his own license plate. “What letters and numbers will you write on your license plate?”
