Always striving to innovate the art of storytelling, Pixar is set to debut its latest 3D computer-animated film, which takes audiences into the complex depths of the human mind. Directed by Pete Docter, who’s work includes Monsters, Inc. and Up, Inside Out stars the voice talents of Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Bill Hader, Lewis Black and Mindy Kaling as single emotions housed within 11-year-old Riley’s mind.
When Riley’s father secures a new job in San Francisco, her family must make the transition from Midwest life to city living, evoking an array of emotions within her. Like every one of us, Riley is guided by her emotions, all of which live within the control center inside her mind. Together, they help guide Riley through her day-to-day life. As she struggles to adjust to a new city, a new school and a new home, her emotions are in turmoil. Joy and Sadness are inadvertently pushed back into the far reaches of Riley’s mind along with her core memories, Fear, Anger, and Disgust are left to take control. Without them, Riley finds herself overwhelmed and confused by her inability to feel Joy or Sadness.
Inside Out debuted last month at the 68th Cannes Film Festival and was met with overwhelming acclaim and will likely change the way we think about the human mind.
As we anticipate the release of Pixar’s latest film, I thought I’d share these Free Inside Out Printables including activities, recipes and coloring pages to begin dialoguing with your children about the concepts presented in the film.
