High school…it was exciting and awkward. There was an ever-increasing independence coupled with the reality of responsibility. Self-awareness and growth were often muddled with anxiety and fear.
This Friday, Summit Entertainment will release it’s coming-of-age film The Perks of Being a Wallflower, adapted from Stephen Chbosky’s book by the same name. The film, which stars Emma Watson, Ezra Miller, Kate Walsh, and Dylan McDermott, follows the story of Charlie (Logan Lerman), a teenage boy wading through the awkward sea of high school with all of its highs and lows.
While tweens, teens, and young adults will definitely be drawn to the film, I also think parents (like myself) will find the story compelling and moving. At some point I will have a teenager and it’s films like this one that I’ll want to use as a conversation starter to help my children navigate this important time in their life.
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a poignant story of love, loss, fear, hope, and the friendships that help us through life and debuts in theaters September 21st.

I’ve been waiting for this film for a very long time and I can’t wait. It’s one of my favorite books EVER. I can’t wait to see the scenes and quotes I love on the big screen, and the actors all seem wonderful.
