I remember the day we decided to move to Orange County. Most of what I knew about the region was that it housed Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, South Coast Plaza and some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Fast forward nearly 8 years and we can’t imagine living anywhere other than this beautiful, vibrant place that sits idyllically between Los Angeles and San Diego.
If you’ve followed our family’s journeys throughout our time here in the OC, you’ve seen how important it is that we give back, particularly on a local level. Some of the ways we’ve given back to our community in recent years include donating cans and non-perishable items to our local food bank, donating new toys to our local Salvation Army, and volunteering our time at local community events. However, without these organizations in place, it would be much more difficult for us to reach the hungry, hurting and homeless in our community, which is why we need organizations like The Orange County Community Foundation, which seeks to realize change in our community. In the past 25 years since it’s debut, the OCCF has granted more than $257 million to meet local, national and worldwide needs. Much of that money has been granted to local nonprofits and students seeking to further their education.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the OCCF, the organization will host Orange County’s first county-side giving day on April 21st and April 22nd, 2015. During this 30-hour period, the OCCF aims to raise $2 million for local nonprofit organizations. If you’ve been thinking about giving back, this is a great way to support your community on a local level. With donations starting at just $25, you can choose which organization you’d like your donation to go to, making it a very personal experience.
