If you’ve been keeping up with the news lately, you know that we’re in the midst of an influenza epidemic. Because my husband and I get annual flu shots and we practice preventive care, I don’t usually worry about our family getting sick. But I have to be honest that I’m mildly concerned, given the fact that neither of my children are able to get the influenza vaccine. We were fortunate not to experience any major illness during the first part of the school year, and we’re hoping to continue to stay happy and healthy in 2013.
Some of the reasons I believe we have managed to stay so healthy is our regular consumption of probiotics and vitamins, meticulous hand-washing, prioritization of sufficient rest and nutritious meals, and active steps to minimize stress. In preparation for the start of the winter quarter, I decided to stock up on some items we were running low on, including vitamins, probiotics, and hand sanitizer at our local Walgreens.
Walgreens recently introduced their brand new mobile app, which offers on-the-go access to mobile coupons and the store’s weekly ad, things I would expect from an app such as this). What I didn’t expect from the app, was the ability to transfer and refill prescriptions by scanning the label, mobile access to my Balance Rewards Account, and a handy Pill Reminder.
After downloading the free app, I set up my account and then began exploring. I had already taken inventory of both medicine cabinets and had an idea of what we needed, so I perused this week’s ad, bonus buys, and the January Savings Book to see if anything I needed was on sale. While none of the items I needed were on sale (or so I thought), I saw a ton of deals and coupons for cold and flu products.
I headed to my local store and began shopping for probiotics and vitamins. Interestingly enough, I happened upon Walgreens’ exclusive Pure Life Naturals brand of supplements, which just happened to be on sale. I picked up a brochure in-store and learned that the supplements are free from artificial ingredients, preservatives, colors, fillers, binders and other chemicals/contaminants, so I picked up the Daily Support Probiotic and Women’s Multi-Plus supplements. Later when I checked my receipt, I noticed that I had saved over $11 and earned 5000 rewards points for my entire purchase.
In addition to the 2 supplements, I picked up hand sanitizer (for those times when hand-washing is impossible), Ology Facial Tissue (Walgreens’ eco-friendly line of products made from renewable resources), and a box of Rooibos Chai Herbal Tea…everything we need as a first line of defense against illness this season. You can view my entire shopping experience here.
While we haven’t made formal resolutions, we are taking active steps to continue to stay healthy this season. Walgreens offers a ton of resources, including their mobile app, to help our family continue to remain happy and healthy this year. With resources like their Resolutions Solutions, which helps you find products based on your goals for the year and their Balance Rewards Program, which provides savings and points which can be redeemed towards in-store rewards, Walgreens aims to support efforts to live a happy, healthy, balanced life.
Just buy purchasing the above items, I earned 5000 points which equals $5 in rewards that can be used on my next trip to Walgreens. Other ways to earn points include filling a prescription, scheduling an immunization appointment, or logging the miles you walk at Walk With Walgreens (more information can be found here). For more information, or to open your free Balance Rewards account, just visit your local Walgreens (you can also sign up through the app).
