In the midst of a scorching heat wave, my friend and I sought shelter and shade at the gorgeous Oak Canyon Nature Center for an impromptu photo shoot in honor of Fall. Apparently we are not the only ones protesting the end of summer. With temperatures upwards of 110 degrees, it’s hard to believe that Fall is just days away. But the slightly cooler mornings and earlier sunsets mean it’s time to start thinking about transitioning from shorts and sandals to sweaters and boots.
Anyone who knows me can attest to the fact that I wear jeans all year round. I simply dress them up or down depending on the occasion. Because I live in my jeans, they wear completely which means I find myself buying a pair at least a few times a year. Admittedly, I used to be a Gap-only gal, but having picked up several pairs of jeans at my local Walmart, I can attest to the improvements in style and quality I’ve noted in the past few years.
Along with carrying their signature Faded Glory brand, you might be surprised to learn that Walmart also sells jeans and other denim basics from major brands like Lee, Levi Strauss & Co, Jordache and Dickies. Since I was looking at adding a couple of staple items to my wardrobe, I picked up a pair of Modern Bootcut Jeans by Levi Strauss & Co in Stormy Sky for just under $20! Not only are these jeans made from a durable, stretchy, comfortable cotton fabric blend, they’re designed with a slimmer seat and thigh to make you look taller and leaner. I chose one of the darker denim shades so I can dress these jeans up with a nice blouse or sweater and a pair of heels or boots. In addition to offering a broad size range (4-20), these jeans are also available in short, medium, and long. It should be noted that in my experience, the jeans run slightly larger than average. I wore one size down from what I typically wear in other denim brands/styles.
To complete my outfit, I spotted an entire display of gorgeous Varigated Rib Long Sleeve V-Neck Sweaters by George. I seriously considered buying one in every color. The soft rayon/nylon fabric blend makes these sweaters ultra cozy and the V-neck is very flattering. I chose Purple Prune, a vibrant and perfectly fitting Fall shade, but I also really liked Odes Sea, Toasted Heather, and Warm Fudge colors offered. In addition to wearing these sweaters with jeans, you could pair them with a skirt or leggings for a dressier look.
Admittedly, I don’t accessorize as often as I’d like to. Most days, I’m lucky to get the basics on! But more and more I’m hearing about how accessories can really transform an outfit. I’ve never spent an exorbitant amount of money on jewelry which is why I am loving Walmart’s accessory department. To compliment my Fall outfit, I picked up a gorgeous silver chain-style necklace for just $5! This silver, etched chain necklace includes an extender so you can wear it loose or snug against your neck, depending on your style preference.
Even if wearing boots in Southern California is purely a fashion statement, my outfit still wouldn’t be complete without them. I own several pairs of boots, most of which I wear heavily throughout the Fall and Winter seasons. Our local Walmart recently received several new styles of shoes including several boots by Faded Glory. Even fashion boots can be pricey, so I really like seeing even knee-high boots in the $20 range. I opted for a pair of Dress Boots in black which feature a trendy, skid-resistant heel, cushioned insoles, and an easy on/off side zipper. This particular boot was also available in a dark brown but I felt like black was more versatile and dressy. While made relatively well, they aren’t the most comfortable boots I’ve worn but perhaps I have to break them in a bit.
Without the boots, this gorgeous, dressy Fall outfit cost me just under $40 which is incredible. I could easily mix and match wardrobe pieces in my closet to create additional Fall looks.
