One of the many benefits of home ownership is the freedom to decorate and remodel without any limitations or restrictions. A few years back, I purchased a flat screen TV and aspired to mount it on my living room wall. Unfortunately, I did not like the anticipated aesthetic of visible wires hanging down from the TV. I used a set of filing cabinets as a makeshift TV stand, and that is where my flat screen TV has sat for the past several years…until now.

Legrand In-Wall Power Kit

Legrand In-Wall Power Kit

The Legrand In-Wall Power Kit is the perfect solution for hiding your flat screen TV wires. In just under 30 minutes, you can use the DIY kit to hide TV wires inside the wall. The kit is suitable for most TV plugs up to 1.13 inches wide and includes a prewired design for straightforward setup. It is idea for hiding low voltage cables such as HDMI and other component wires. At $79.99, the kit is very affordable, considering it includes all of the parts and tools needed to hide TV wires inside the wall. The Legrand In-Wall Power Kit includes 2 power grommets with a 54 inch harness, a 6 foot power cord, a hole saw and fish tape.

How to Hide TV Wires

  • Begin by ensuring the TV plug fits inside the top grommet assembly
  • Determine the mounting location between wall studs
  • Measure and mark the center of each hole location (no more than 5 feet apart within the same wall cavity)
  • Line up the bottom hole with the power outlet (maximum 5 1/2 feet)
  • Assemble the hole saw provided
  • Drill holes at the top and bottom locations (you may use a power drill or the handle provided)
  • Connect the fish tape using the connectors and fish hook provided.
  • Starting at the bottom, pull the fish tape through to the upper hole so the cords are out of site and hidden in the wall.
  • Hook the power harness wire to the fish hook and pull it out of the wall so that the bottom of the power harness protrudes through the wall
  • Repeat with HDMI and low voltage cables through the upper grommet gasket. Route cables through the upper wall hole and out the bottom hole.
  • Install the upper grommet. Tighten the screws and snap the trim ring on
  • Remove the back cover of the lower grommet by loosening the screws
  • Connect the power harness plug into the lower grommet
  • Route cables through the bottom gasket slit
  • Install the bottom module
  • Tighten the screws and snap the trim ring on
  • Plug in with the power cord provided
  • Plug in the TV and connect the cables

In just 30 minutes (or less!), you can hide TV wires inside your wall. Admittedly, I was a bit apprehensive about having to drill 2 holes in my wall. However, the included hole saw made it quick and easy to create the necessary holes. in my opinion, that was the most intimidating part of the process which was easy to overcome. I was pleasantly surprised that routing of the TV power and HDMI cables into my wall did not require an electrician or other complicating electrical wiring. While I am confident that anyone can use the kit to hide TV wires inside the wall, you can also elicit assistance from the Best Buy Geek Squad.
