When I was a tween, my mother would take me to the makeup counter at our local department store to learn about the colors that worked with my skin tone and how to enhance beauty rather than create it with makeup. I have always preferred a more natural look but enjoy experimenting with colors or accentuating one particular part of my face (like my eyes or my lips).’
We’re right in the midst of the Fall season, and this year’s trends include a flawless face, neutral shadows, a bold red lip, and finished brows. I recently showed you how to recreate Mary Kay’s Hollywood Mystique look with the emphasis on a bold, red lip. I could wear very minimal makeup and simply rock that vibrant lip, particularly when I go out with my husband or some friends.
The latest makeup trend focuses on old school Hollywood glamour with a modern twist, and I am loving the accents on lips or eyes to create a dramatic look. I’ve been experimenting with different shades of red and recently showed off my vibrant lips on an evening out with my husband.
Mary Kay offers the following tips on achieving pout-worthy lips:
1. Line lips with a clear lip liner along your natural lip line (apply slowly for precision)
2. Start in the center of your lips and slowly fill in
3. Be sure to apply lipstick to the outer corner of your lips
With this specific look, I really like the contrast of a bold lip against my skin tone with the emphasis being on my lips.
*Tip* Try experimenting with different shades of red for red layers
*Tip* Use a clear lip liner to erase any color that has strayed outside your natural lip line
