Grinchmas at Universal Studios Hollywood
Visiting Universal Studios Hollywood has become one of our favorite holiday celebrations and we love the festive transformation our local theme parks undergo for the season. Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas comes to life at Universal Studios Hollywood this season complete with a 65-foot tall Grinchmas tree, your favorite Who-ville Whos, and the Grinch.
Grinchmas, included with park admission, runs through January 1st, 2023, and is a unique, fun-filled way to celebrate the joy of the season. Here is what you can expect during Grinchmas:
Festive Photo Opps: The Grinch, Cindy-Lou Who, and Max (The Grinch’s faithful dog) all have dedicated photo opps, newly redesigned for the holiday season. Tip: See The Grinch first as the meet and greet line is the longest of the three. Alternatively, you can also see The Grinch downstairs at the end of the Studio Tour where the line is often very short. Be sure to check with a cast member for specific times when The Grinch will make an appearance.
Story Time With Cindy-Lou Who: This year, Cindy-Lou Who has her own dedicated story time where she reads “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” Showtimes are posted inside Grinchmas at Universal Plaza.
Send a Postcard to The Grinch: The Who-ville post office is now accepting postcards with your favorite holiday messages to The Grinch. Bonus: Each postcard sent supports tutoring for homeless youth.
Wholiday Tree Lighting: Every night, The Grinch and the Whoville Whos gather to light the 65-foot-tall Grinchmas tree, decorated with thousands of LED lights. The tree lighting has a festive new set and new elements culminating with snow and your favorite holiday music. Tip: There are several shows beginning at dusk and the later shows are the least crowded.
Who-bilicious Treats: Grinch-approved treats and holiday drinks are available for purchase inside Grinchmas. These seasonal treats include holiday cupcakes, donuts, and drinks, all inspired by The Grinch.
Christmas in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter
The Village of Hogsmeade is impressive throughout the year, but it is particularly beautiful during the holidays at Universal Studios Hollywood. Grab a cup of hot butterbeer and stroll the village which is adorned with festive décor for the holidays. Be sure to visit during the day and at night to enjoy the full experience of being immersed in the world of Harry Potter this holiday season.
Here is what you can expect during Christmas in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter:
Hogwarts Frog Choir: Enjoy a captivating a capella performance from the Hogwarts Frog Choir featuring their renditions of your favorite Christmas carols. After the performance, you can take a photo with the Frog Choir.
The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts Castle: As night falls, Hogwarts Castle will come to life with lights, projection, and music. This beautiful Christmas spectacular will amaze audiences with stunning imagery, animation, and music from the Harry Potter film series. Tip: I like to stand either on the stage where the Frog Choir performs during the day or in front of the entrance to Flight of the Hippogriff. Additionally, there is usually a performance right at dusk that may not be announced on the app. This performance and the performances later in the evening are usually less crowded.
Warm Up With Holiday-Themed Fare: Every visit to Universal Studios Hollywood must include a cup of Butterbeer. And during the winter, we warm up with a cup of hot butterbeer, available at Three Broomsticks. Additionally, enjoy a hearty English Holiday Meal which includes roasted turkey breast, chicken gravy, stuffing, honey-glazed carrots, roasted Brussels sprouts, pigs in a blanket, and cranberry compote.
