My kids are at an age where comfort trumps style in every occasion and situation. My son lives in jeans, while my daughter often sleeps in the leggings she sports throughout the day. Finding outfits that give them the freedom to “be kids” while still reflecting the colors, patterns and overall style of the season can be challenging.
With Thanksgiving and Christmas upon us, I decided to vary my approach to holiday fashion for my kids this year. Rather than pick out a Thanksgiving-specific shirt for my son or a Christmas dress for my daughter, I opted for attire in seasonal colors that could be used for holiday photos, family gatherings, and other seasonal occasions.
Rather than impose a pair of slacks on my son that will sit in his drawer for a majority of the season, I opted to purchase new jeans and dress them up with Faded Glory’s long sleeve woven shirts. Walmart currently has a 2-piece set for just $7.00, which includes the woven shirt plus a graphic tee in 9 different colors/styles. For the winter season, I paired his Faded Glory Jeans (which are just $8.92 right now!) with the Black Soot Stripe woven shirt which will work for nearly any holiday event we’ll participate in this season.
Shopping for my daughter’s holiday outfit proved to be a bit more difficult, since I was trying to avoid anything red which would end up being worn less than a handful of times. Non-traditional colors like blue, silver, and gold are trending this holiday season, so I decided to pick out a Holiday Dress by George in Gold. This sleeveless dress (which she can only get away with in Southern California), features a lace-sequinned skirt. The dress is beautiful and comfortable and can actually be worn throughout the year for practically any occasion. At present the dress retails for $18.98 at Walmart.
