I grew up as an only child, so in many ways, the dynamic between my own two kids is a continual learning process for me. One of the things that has surprised me about my daughter is how much she wants to be like her brother. I remember the day she picked up a few of his LEGOs and began building next to him. While I thought their parallel play was endearing, my son was not pleased. In fact one of their largest sources of contention are his LEGOs, which is why I started purchasing LEGO Friends building sets specifically for her to play with. You can imagine her excitement when I told her that LEGOLAND California would be opening a brand new themed land inspired by the popular toy line.
Heartlake City brings the LEGO Friends toy line and television show to life in a themed land that features a horse and jeep carousel, the Heartlake Stables, the City Park Crêperie, and the Friends Forever Stage all surrounding the Heartlake Fountain where kids can take a cool, splashing reprieve from the warm summer sun.
Heartlake City is home to Andrea, Emma, Mia, Stephanie and Olivia where they embark on adventures that include aviation, horseback riding, karate and more. The theme of LEGOLAND California’s new land focuses on the girls’ interest in horse riding and the most striking and engaging addition is the Heartlake Riding Stables, where kids can build and race their very own horse, or take a “ride” on one of the LEGO Friends’ horses!
Adjacent to the stables, kids can take a ride at Mia’s Riding camp, which features 62 horses and jeeps. Despite the fact that this land is targeted towards girls, I appreciated that my son could enjoy many of the activities. Some of the subtle touches like horses with more boyish colors helps make kids of either gender feel comfortable exploring this imaginative new land.
When you visit Heartlake City, take a look at the showtimes for the brand new LEGO Friends to the Rescue show, which performs live on the Friends Forever Stage. Children will love singing and dancing along with their favorite characters from the popular TV show. Also be sure to view the times when kids can meet with the LEGO Friends characters for photos and autographs.
While Carlsbad typically enjoys cooler temperatures due to its proximity to the ocean, it can still get quite warm at LEGOLAND California. For a fun, refreshing cool-down, be sure to spend some time at the Heartlake Fountain, authentically shaped like a heart after the original featured in the TV show.
Before you leave, you must visit the City Park Crêperie which features four different types of crêpes including powdered sugar, Nutella, Nutella and bananas and Berries. Tip: Try them all!
Families looking for LEGO Friends toys and inspired merchandise can stop by the Heartlake City Boutique inspired by the Heartlake Mall LEGO building set. Even if you’re just window shopping, you’ll want to step inside to view the impressive LEGO Friends hot air balloon inside the store.
LEGO Friends Heartlake City is located adjacent to Fun Town at LEGOLAND California.
